So Aisha ends up in STEREOTYPICAL AFRICA! Because all of Africa is apparently the Savannah and it's all populated by lions. She is pulled behind a rock by Tanya to avoid a lion. They must be in Kenya (forget Norway!).
Rito and Goldar are STILL wandering around underneath the Command Center. It's been days upon days upon days and they're still down there. Lost. Must be pretty hungry too. They follow a sign and end up in the storage room (with the potential remains of Alpha 4), where they plant the explosives. Finally. Except Rita shows up and tells them to wait because Zedd wants the crystal intact first. Oops.
Zedd and Rita call the HydroHog from Aquitar. Rita flatters him, he comes, and he drains a lake of water. The Aquitian Rangers kind of fail at stopping him, so he dries up the lake. He calls them aliens. THEY ARE FROM THE SAME PLANET. *headdesk* They pass out from lack of water, and apparently there is now no water to be found in Angel Grove. Why this is only negatively affecting the Aquitian rangers, we're not sure. No wonder there are so many fish in this episode. They had to go SOMEWHERE once the water evaporated.
Aisha discovers the animals are sick. She worked in an animal shelter. Surely she can help! Because she's so much smarter than the Wildlife Rescue people who spent at least 8 years in college specializing in this sort of thing. Or something. Aisha and Tanya run through the setting sun, trying to get back to the village before nightfall, lest they be eaten by hyenas. Because don't forget, they're in AFRICA.
If only this episode had been eaten by hyenas.

Episode 148- Climb Every Fountain
Okay, this episode is bad. Really bad. So, to distract me from the bad that is about to come parading our way, we have something Super Mega Awesome to share! It's the Power Rangers Holiday Fic Exchange! It's going to be so much fun, and I highly encourage everybody to take part! You write a power rangers fic, you get a power rangers fic. Awesomesauce! And now I can stall no longer. This episode. Just. FULL of fish. And not just the alien kind.
So we start out with a new opening. I'm pretty stoked the kids get billing next to their unseen adult counterparts. Although Baby!Bulk and Skull do not make it into the credits and the theme song just doesn't quite flow with "Go Go Alien Rangers". It was a good try though.
So we start out with Billy being Super Genius! He's incredibly smart. Cestro gives him instructions for a device to turn them back into their teenage selves, and Billy is all "Yeah, it's cool, I got it." Because he's AWESOME. Even as a tiny child.
Unfortunately, he has to go to school instead of finishing the device. He promises to finish it after school, since Cestro can't because his hands are too big to make the wiring connections. Ahem. Why Billy couldn't just be "sick" that day, I'm not sure, unless it was a case of not encouraging kids to skip school. Though, frankly, if it was skip school and save the world or go to school and the world gets destroyed, heck yeah I want my kids skipping school! Save that world, kids.
Meanwhile, Rita and Zedd have a plan to get it, the power coins, and destroy the world. So they send down Rito and Goldar. They try to flush the kids off the school bus, but the plan backfires because the kids aren't afraid of the monsters and start pummeling them with balls and lots of popcorn. Where all these toys and foodstuffs were stashed I have NO idea. I remember elementary school. No food on the bus, yo. And I was in elementary school when this time warp would have landed these kids (1987 or 1988).
Rito and Goldar get shooed away and the bus driver takes them home. Baby!Adam decides to stay at Baby!Billy's house and help him out. They hang out in the YELLOW garage of the YELLOW house and Billy finishes up the device. It looks like a robot. Like a child's toy robot. So they leave Billy's house, which is now BLUE (I don't even know), and walk down the sidewalk. Rito and Goldar trail them and they don't notice. Oh boys. Billy can't wait to get back to the future so he can surf the internet. (for porn)
Back at the Command Center, Cestro suddenly begins to lose hydration. It's apparently catching because one moment everybody is fine and then Cestro starts falling over so everyone else has to start falling over too. Alpha transports them to the nearest body of water, which happens to be the fountain in the park. First of all, what kind of water do these beings need because not all water is the same! Secondly, what the crap? Alpha can teleport people to the farthest galaxy, but he can't teleport these rangers to the perfect body of water???? Fishy fish fish fish.
Baby!Billy and Baby!Adam meet up with the others and they all toss their power coins (which are non-functional, remember) into the robot. Somehow, this powers the robot and Baby!Billy manages to turn back into Big!Billy before Rito and Goldar attack. Tommy tries to run away with the robot but it's no good. Billy is attacked and the robot falls into enemy hands. Goldar gets the power coins and, with Rita and Zedd now on Earth, they destroy them. Powers gone. Just like that. And... it makes no sense. Whatsoever. Anyway, robot device gets turned into a monster and Billy is all "I'm so going to kick your ass, by myself, because I am fully grown now!" except Alpha teleports them away.
So at the fountain, the Aquitians are rehydrating and all the bystanders are just in awe of the aliens. Nobody is screaming in terror or running away or calling the authorities. They're just all "Oh, look, aliens!". Um... okay? Billy shows Baby!Tommy his authority in insisting he go to the Aquitians to let them know about the robot monster, seeing as he's not a Tiny Child any longer. Baby!Tommy pouts, but defers to Billy's Sheer Awesomeness.
Billy runs up to the Aquitians and is all "Hey, it's me, Billy, you know me, because we're BFF now. There's a monster coming?" and then the monster shows up, the Aquitians morph and begin to do battle, and Billy runs to stand with the other Grown Ups. Who then ask if he knows them and he says NO. Uh... dude, you clearly know them! You were just standing around having a chat! But the residents of Angel Grove totally believe him and are in awe of the rangers. People walk right up to the TENGA AND RANGER FIGHTING and stand very close being all admiring. Really people? Are you THAT dumb? Big monster and aliens in multi-coloured spandex fighting does not inspire me to walk right up to them and be up in their business.
Biggest fail of the show thus far? The Aquitians call THEMSELVES the Alien Rangers. *beats head against desk*
Rita and Zedd make the monster grow and he's suddenly at the abandoned quarry, where the rangers call the zords and do telepathic zord battle. And win. Because they're good like that.
There is a ceremony where a woman (potentially the mayor?) gives a speech thanking the Aquitians for helping them and then gives them all big gold stars. No, really, they get actual Gold Stars... like you'd give a kid on their 100% A test paper. But I won't complain too much because Jimmy Jameson, Reporter Guy, is there! Yay! And nobody wonders why a strange man (since none of them will know who Billy is now that he's All Grown Up) is hanging around with five ten year olds. Baby!Aisha is relieved things are going better now, and she's freaking adorable.
4.5 fish. I'd go with a full on 5 but... Tiny Children! And Billy is not only hot but a super genius so... I'm biased.

Episode 146- Alien Rangers of Aquitar Part 1
Once again we have Tiny Children! I love the episodes with Tiny Children. It's a... thing. Sorry.
So at the carnival, people are running around in fear. They know something is wrong, but nobody else has kept their memories. Also, there are NO other small children running around. So. What. The rangers were the only teenagers at the carnival? Everybody else was in their thirties and forties? Really? And what would have happened to the kids who were under 10 BEFORE time was reversed? Did they just disappear? Apparently, I ask too many questions. Let's move on, shall we?
So the Tiny Rangers decide to head to the abandoned warehouse district. Awwwww. Billy is clearly put in charge. Once there, they meet up with Tiny Bulk and Skull. They are clearly rebel daredevils because they are skateboarding through the abandoned warehouse district... while wearing knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, and helmets. What baaaddddd boys.
Tiny Bulk and Skull do not recognize anybody but Billy, though the rest of the Tiny Rangers clearly remember them. Why are they the only ones that retained their memories? I just don't get it. Clearly the fish are strong with this episode.
So Rita, Zedd, Goldar, and Rito are huge and stomping around somewhere. Master Vile shrinks them down and reveals his plan. Rito must first go chase down the Tiny Rangers. He catches up to them with some Tengas and attack. The kids are smart, or more to the point Billy is in charge and they all listen to his wisdom without question, and split up. Tommy and Kat run off one way and manage to throw some trash cans at Rito and some Tengas. Rocky, Billy, Bulk, and Skull set up a trap where Rito and a Tenga stand on the end of a catapult and they jump on it, launching them into a shopping cart which careens into a concrete wall. Rocky owns his Bad One Liners by cracking a joke about not forgetting their receipt, and then the kids run away. Adam and Aisha use some construction equipment and rope to throw a beam at some Tengas. The kids try to meet back up, but a cop car pulls up, scaring away Rito and the Tengas. Bulk and Skull run for the cop car despite Billy trying to stop them, but it's too late. The cops have seen the kids and call them out. Tommy and Kat finally catch up but Billy waves them off before the cops see them. The other four attempt to appeal to the cops by calling on their authority as power rangers, except nobody has heard of the power rangers yet and honestly? Tiny Children claiming to be superheroes and using that as the explanation for being in the abandoned warehouse district without an adult? Not convincing. Sorry guys, but you LOOK like little kids. No adult will believe you. They get hauled down to the police station where their parents will supposedly be called.
Honestly, they're all about 10 I'd say. That's plenty old enough to be running around outside playing with friends without an adult. At least in my book. I'm not so sure the abandoned warehouse district is the place to play, but I can't really see a bunch of ten year olds getting hauled off to the station due to lack of supervision. Ushered to a safer area sure, but hauled in? Eh... not so much. Well, maybe by today's uber-paranoid standard, sure, but not so much for the early 90's. Anyway!
Bulk and Skull's mothers pick them up while our Tiny Rangers sit and wait. Tiny Kat, with the WORST accent fail since the inception of the show, calls the station and inquires about her "son" Billy and his friends. She's instructed she'll have to come down and sign for them to be released to her custody. So she and Tiny Tommy come up with a plan. She stands on his shoulders (sitting would have been sufficient, but whatever) and wears a long trenchcoat to cover them both. Billy uses his awesome police hat (that all four of them got, and ice cream to boot!) to cover the cops glasses so he can't see Kat clearly. Apparently NOBODY else in the busy police station notices either, because the kids just walk out the door with Kat on Tommy's shoulders. Mkay then. Angel Grove has a very incompetent police force. And what about their ACTUAL parents? Where are they? Didn't the police call them?
So the kids need to get to the Command Center, but they can't teleport for some reason. So they walk. For HOURS. They get about halfway there when a sandstorm whips up. Luckily, at this point, Alpha and Zordon have figured out that the Command Center itself went back in time too and so it's stuck in spring cleaning mode. The power was out due to a vacuum. Alpha plugs it all back in and power comes back, so he teleports the kids straight to the Command Center. They're so happy to see him! Frankly, they're acting like Tiny Children ought to. Which is confusing because they're supposed to only LOOK like Tiny Children but ACT like their teenage selves. But okay show, I adore Tiny Children stories, so I won't complain here.
So they discover Master Vile is throwing another awesome party in an attempt to draw together all the monsters of the universe. Monsters of the Universe, Unite! They all agree to help take over Earth. The Tiny Rangers don't want to leave it unprotected, but they have no powers and can't do anything. Billy shows his alien fetish and suggests they need Other Rangers (wink wink, nudge nudge). So they discuss calling the Alien Rangers from Aquitar, and Rocky manages to wrangle some continuity into the show by mentioning how they helped Dex! Way to go show!
But wait. What? Alien Rangers? Why are they called the ALIEN Rangers of Aquitar? Wouldn't the Earth Rangers be aliens to the Aquitians? If they are Aquitian Rangers on Aquitar, they aren't exactly aliens to themselves. Oh show. Way to be ethnocentric there. I'll let it slide though, because they are awesome, and, well, Tiny Children! (yes, I have a thing, deal with it)
So the Alien Rangers are Aquitians from Aquitar, which is a planet entirely under water. Far far away. That is ENTIRELY water. The whole thing. WATER.
So Alpha sends out a signal and it travels as a thick green pulsing beam all the way to Aquitar, where it penetrates all that WATER and reaches the underWATER pods the Aquitians live in. The DRY pods filled with AIR. Because on a planet made entirely of WATER, somehow, SOMEHOW, creatures not only managed to evolve that require some semblance of DRY LAND and AIR to breathe (whatever their air may consist of), but they became the dominant species! Of the underwater planet! Science really really REALLY doesn't work that way, show.
So the Aquitians respond and all we see are five faces looking quizzically through the Viewing Globe.

Episode 144- Rangers in Reverse
TINY CHILDREN! Rangers! As Tiny Children!
Ahem. This episode. Yeah.
So we start off in the Youth Center with incredibly attractive young men (Rocky and Billy) showing off their lovely lovely arms by hauling fruit boxes for Ernie. We approve of this opening scene! So we discover that it's soon to be Kat's birthday, which Rocky only knows because he helped her register for classes (AW), and she hasn't told anybody. Aisha decides it's a great idea to give her a surprise party. Frankly, I'm of the opinion that if somebody doesn't tell you their birthday, it's because they don't WANT a fuss or party. If you want a surprise party, you subtly drop hints about having never had one and oh yeah, did you know my birthday is [whenever]?
So on the moon, Zedd and Goldar are making fun of Master Vile. Rita defends her Daddy! Aw. Master Vile has a very fishy plan about how he's going to insert some crystal orb thing into some very precise coordinates and it will freeze the Earth on it's axis which will SOMEHOW reverse time. This... makes about as much sense as all the OTHER times they've tried to reverse time or travel in time.
At the Command Center, Zordon has deactivated AGAIN. Alpha starts to panic, but Zordon comes back from his PRIVATE CHAMBER (where he watches the rangers have sex) and reassures him that things will be okay... mostly.
So for Kat's birthday, they all take her to a carnival. But she's blindfolded, so she doesn't know where they're taking her, just that they all know it's her birthday and they all want to help her celebrate. So this is more a surprise destination than a surprise party. They are at a carnival. In Angel Grove. This canNOT end well.
Master Vile sends his dutiful son down to Earth to place the orb. It's supposed to be just to the north of Angel Grove, and I have to grumpily wonder, WHY is it ALWAYS Angel Grove? Couldn't they have gone to barren wastelands of Siberia or somewhere else Far Far Away? But no. It's in Angel Grove. Again. I'm beginning to think Angel Grove isn't just it's own country, but that it's really it's own PLANET.
Anyway, so Rito goes to place the orb and Zordon calls the rangers to alert them of the danger. They morph and go fight some Tengas on what appears to be the edge of the carnival, although they were made it seem like Rito was far away. Oh well. That's the least of the fish in this episode. So they fight for a bit and then they must call on the SPARKLEPOWERS and I'm reduced to capslock irritation. Stupid sparklepowers. We spend the rest of the fight ignoring the actual fight and instead figuring out how Kim relates to Jacob since Tommy is obviously the super-special-but-nobody-can-figure-out-why Personality of Cardboard Belle and Kat is, unfortunately, reduced to the Sparkle and Stalkery Creepiness of Edward. Kim just has really nice abs.

And for some reason Billy is now a dashing brunette and no longer blond. But the rest of them! Tiny!Aisha is scared! Tiny!Adam asks Tiny!Billy if they can still morph! Tiny!Tommy tries to morph and gets all upset when it doesn't work! OMG THEY'RE ALL SO DARN CUTE!
Meanwhile Zedd and Rita are on Earth and they grow all big and stomp around a bit. While scaring the FREAKING CUTE TINY RANGER CHILDREN!
And that is all.

Ahem. This episode. Yeah.
So we start off in the Youth Center with incredibly attractive young men (Rocky and Billy) showing off their lovely lovely arms by hauling fruit boxes for Ernie. We approve of this opening scene! So we discover that it's soon to be Kat's birthday, which Rocky only knows because he helped her register for classes (AW), and she hasn't told anybody. Aisha decides it's a great idea to give her a surprise party. Frankly, I'm of the opinion that if somebody doesn't tell you their birthday, it's because they don't WANT a fuss or party. If you want a surprise party, you subtly drop hints about having never had one and oh yeah, did you know my birthday is [whenever]?
So on the moon, Zedd and Goldar are making fun of Master Vile. Rita defends her Daddy! Aw. Master Vile has a very fishy plan about how he's going to insert some crystal orb thing into some very precise coordinates and it will freeze the Earth on it's axis which will SOMEHOW reverse time. This... makes about as much sense as all the OTHER times they've tried to reverse time or travel in time.
At the Command Center, Zordon has deactivated AGAIN. Alpha starts to panic, but Zordon comes back from his PRIVATE CHAMBER (where he watches the rangers have sex) and reassures him that things will be okay... mostly.
So for Kat's birthday, they all take her to a carnival. But she's blindfolded, so she doesn't know where they're taking her, just that they all know it's her birthday and they all want to help her celebrate. So this is more a surprise destination than a surprise party. They are at a carnival. In Angel Grove. This canNOT end well.

Episode 142- Master Vile and the Metallic Armour Part 3
Oh show. The opening once Kat joins has always SEEMED very Kat heavy, but I wasn't sure if it was just a bias or if it really was skewed THAT far in her favour. So today I checked. Breaking it down shot by shot we have:
1 shot each- Zedd, Goldar, zords, Bulk and Skull, and Toy (now with pasted on fire, yay!)
2 shots- Rocky (the only two being his morphing shot and his name/character title shot) and the logo
3 shots each- Rita, Rito (with Tengas), Billy, Aisha, and Adam (counting their morhping and title shots)
5 shots- morphed team (two of which are shark cycle shots, so not the whole team), Tommy (two with Kat and counting his morphing and title shots)
and coming in at a whopping 8 UNMORPHED shots- Kat. Yes, that's EIGHT shots for her, and I'm NOT including the two shots she has with Tommy. So, if we add those two shots into her grand total (as I did with Tommy), she comes in at a whole TEN shots of the opening sequence. Ten. And people wonder where we get the idea that this season had a weeeee bit of a Kat bias?
Anyway, onto the episode.
This really didn't need to be a three parter. No, it really really didn't. This so could have been resolved last episode. So. We start out with the rangers in the Command Center being all weak and power-drained. Poor Rocky is almost falling over from lack of energy. Zordon pulls out his Magic Power Restoration Fish and zaps them all so they regain their energy.
At the Youth Center, there is much dancing! And monsters showing up for the party! And the Vulva Monster arrives in a limo! Bulk and Skull are dancing, as are a few other humans. There's a guy at a dj table and kids are taking orders and serving food. Either this is a whooolllleeee lot of "under a spell" or Angel Grove residents are just really desensitized to monsters by this point. We vote for the latter. Master Vile throws the BEST parties ever.
Back at the Command Center, the rangers need to wait for theirsparklepowers metallic armour to recharge. Billy thinks he can hurry it along, but he needs Adam and Aisha's help. The others demorph and go to the Youth Center to keep an eye on the party. Bulk and Skull are surprised to see them, assuming they'd been lost the whole time. But they're not worried. They are SURE the Rangers will come back and save them. Because they have faith in the Power Rangers and are just awesome like that. Goldar interrupts and once again wonders why he bothers since Tommy isn't Jason and really makes a poor substitute. Mostly he just talks about how they own the Earth now and the Rangers can't save the humans, though. Frankly, they've barely taken Angel Grove. The only way taking ONE city would constitute ruling the whole world is if we're talking RPM and that one city is Corinth. But then, Venjix had killed all the other billions of people on Earth before trying to take Corinth, so that one city really WAS all of Earth at that point. ANYWAY! I digress.
They make their way back to the Command Center where Zordon tells them they need to go to another planet in another galaxy to get the zords back. The atmosphere is highly corrosive to metal so they can't use their metallic armour there, but are determined to try. They find some heavily corroded zords and Billy says they need to find the podiatal emergency egress. He clarifies it's the Big Toe Emergency Exit and starts blasting away at the corroded and unstable zord. He finds the door and Rocky charges in first. They climb a ladder and manage to fire some lasers which destroy a building... a building that appears to be in Angel Grove and NOT on the deserted distant planet in another galaxy they happen to be on. Uh... what? The fish are working their powers here and confuse the heck out of me. It... really doesn't work that way.
Moving on! So they find the engine room and the Zeo Crystal and manage to break Master Vile's connection to the crystal by clutching their stomachs and grunting a lot. The Rangers go to Earth and Master Vile sends his goo monster thing to beat them. The zords (all clean and corrosion free now! darn those fish and their effective cleaning procedures!) show up and they fight for awhile, even though the goo monster is still tied into Ninjors powers. Alpha waits until they are close to losing and then pushes a few buttons to break Master Vile's spell of darkness, which breaks his hold on Ninjor and weakens the monster enough to be destroyed. Alpha apparently has a flair for the dramatic. So they win and drive Master Vile away.
But he's determined to beat them eventually and then yells at Rita a lot. MAJOR family issues there. Wow.
In order to keep the Zeo crystals from falling into the wrong hands again, the rangers break the crystal into five pieces and scatter them. Zordon hasbuilt a TARDIS created a temporary hole in time and space.
With things all settled down, the rangers are back with Lt. Stone and Bulk and Skull on their horseback riding outing. They gallop off and Kat looks semi-comfortable (though she's sitting English style in a Western saddle which CAN'T be comfortable) and Skull still looks like the only experienced horseman in the bunch.
Fish: 4.5 The fish were the only thing that DID make sense in this episode

"It seems the layer of corrosion is much thicker than I anticipated."

Episode 136 - A Different Shade of Pink Part 3
Before the recap, a little bit of housekeeping. We are hopefully going to settle into a Wednesday/Saturday schedule for the recaps. However! I will be going to Morphicon in 2 weeks, and the weekend after that is Dragon*Con, so... who knows when we're going to update? It should be interesting, anyway.

Anyway. Previously, on Power Rangers - Amy Jo Johnson uses these last few episodes to audition for ER, and Rita wants to send Ninjor as a message in a bottle.
The episode opens with the Rangers angsting about the choice they've been given - they can hand over Kat or Ninjor will be drowned. Zordon says that this is the toughest choice they've ever faced. Really? What about the time they had to choose between their power coins or the teens at the world peace conference? Or their coins or their parents? Basically, they have been in this situation before.
Up on the moon, Zedd and Rita are bickering. The honeymoon is over. Awww. And on Earth, Kat is showing how she is ridiculously insightful, as we get another long explanation of her backstory. It's really touching, and Kat clearly knows what is best for Kim as she gets her to admit to being scared. Then she runs off to go offer to sacrifice herself to save Ninjor, and Queenriley and I both start shipping Rocky/Kat at the same time.
In the park, the Rangers bring Kat to trade for Ninjor. However, they have Kat protected in a force field, and Rita cheated anyway - no Ninjor in the jar. There's a nice fight scene, until one of the Tengas breaks the force field projected, and Kat gets kidnapped. And she screams for Tommy. :( :( :( Billy is blaming himself for Kat being captured. Awww.
Up on the moon, Zedd and Rita decide that they're going to throw Kat in the jar with Ninjor and wash them both out in the Sea of Sorrows, except they can't do anything until the tide comes in. So Kat is locked up in a cell, where she tries to steal the keys from Squatt and Baboo. She almost succeeds, but the guard changes. She massages Rito (making an amazing face in the process) until he falls asleep, and she escapes. She grabs the pink power coin (in a glowing pink box) which alerts Alpha that the coin is in the hands of good again. Kat taunts Rita for a bit, until she's teleported out by Billy's amazing insta-tech. Kim is very glad to have her coin back.
At Angel Grove community pool, a stunt person who is supposed to be Kat does an awesome dive, showing Kim that conquering your fears is possible. Kim decides to participate in the competition, and does an awesome job. Also, Aisha clings to Rocky. This important for everyone. Kim's routine is pretty great, and she gets a high schore. At the youth center, Ernie throws her a party, and the coach offers her a spot at his gym in Florida so he can train her properly for the Pan Globals.
This is not an offer you turn down.
At the Command Center, Kim tells the other Rangers she isn't going to accept because she has her responsibilities as a Ranger, and they all encourage her to go. Zordon even tells her that when she comes back she will be a greater Ranger than before. WHEN SHE COMES BACK. MAKE IT HAPPEN. Even Tommy encourages her, and some of my objections to the ship fade away, because he's being ridiculously sweet.
Kim was clearly hoping that the Rangers would tell her to go, because she had made arrangements for Kat to take over if they'd convinced her to go. The power is transferred to Kat, and really, there needs to be so much more Kim/Kat fic in the world. Make it happen!
Also, Adam wonders if Kat is really free of the spell, and then there is epic sadface on my part. Adam! Not cool! Especially when TOMMY is on the team. JUST SAYING.
Fish: 1.5. Only because we aren't sure why Rita just didn't grab Kat in her sleep.

Episode 135 - A Different Shade of Pink Part 2
Previously, on Power Rangers - Kat proves that she is wicked awesome by breaking the spell placed on her by Rita, and Kimberly falls off a balance beam.
We begin in an episode of ER - Kat called an ambulance, which rushed Kim to the hospital. Kat explains to the doctors that Kimberly fell off the beam and hit her head. If you watch the episode, it is clear that no, Kimberly did not in fact hit her head, but we guess for dramatic purposes she needs to have a head injury.
And then she wakes up and has amnesia and thinks she's dating Billy. Who wants to write me that fic?
Anyway, Kat feels guilty that Kimberly is hurt even though a) it is not her fault and b) she was under a spell, which she broke on her own, proving that she is way more awesome than Tommy because she didn't need someone to break a sword to remove the spell. Up on the moon, Rita and Zedd discuss the situation, and agree that Kat's act of supreme goodness has broken the spell permanently.
Back at the hospital, Tommy is on a payphone to Kim's mother in France and we discover that Kim's mother can't get a flight to the states. Billy and Tommy also have a discussion where they finally start to get suspicious of Kat, as they are not sure why she was at the Youth Center so late at night, but they are glad she was.
Meanwhile, Bulk, Skull & Lieutenant Stone are spying on Kim's coach, as they are convinced he is a spy. Then they get pushed down a laundry chute. Whatever. Kim's coach expresses concern for Kim. Aww.
Adam/Rocky/Aisha are off on a date in the park when Billy calls to let them know that Kim has woken up and the doctor says that she'll be just fine. We don't know why they weren't at the hospital to wait for their friend, but we can only assume they were busy comforting each other. Rito shows up to attack them, and they are very annoyed at being interrupted. It's Ninja Ranger time!
... Ok, we clearly entered the Twilight Zone or something, because Tommy is being really sweet. He brought Kim a bear! He expressed concern! We are not yelling at him to shut up! What madness is this? Why am I suddenly thinking Tommy is being good for Kimberly? My worldview is shattered. SHATTERED. Zordon calls and interrupts the moment and expresses his concern for Kim, who is sorry for worrying him. Zordon was actually paying attention for once, and the SCT are being overwhelmed. Billy and Tommy morph in the hospital room and then teleport straight out of there. Secret identities they are doing it wrong.
Kat comes into Kim's room and confesses everything while the other Rangers are fighting. She is all concerned that they will hate her forever for what she did while under the spell. In further proof that we've entered the twilight zone, two amazing things happen - continuity and characterization. Kimberly (and then the other Rangers) tell Kat about how Tommy began a Ranger, and how strong Rita's magic is, and that they could never hate her for what she did. It is actually really touching, and someone should write me Kim/Kat fic. Kim also says that she is not going to try out for the competition anymore, she's done with gymnastics. Everyone is confused by this, even though it is obvious that Kim is just terrified after falling. Characterization, you are doing it... quite well! Good job, show!
Rita and Zedd are now officially annoyed, so they send down some garbage monster to kidnap Kat. The monster gets them when they're all leaving the hospital, and the Rangers morph and the monster just stands there with Kat until she escapes. Then they call the Shogun Zords, which at one point get trapped in a garbage can, but they immediately break out. It's pretty dull. Except they have a flaming sword! I approve of that.
Rita confronts Billy/Kat/Tommy at the lake and tell them that if they don't turn Kat over to her, then they will destroy Ninjor forever. He is still trapped in a bottle, even though he has managed to get out of bottles before.
Why Rita doesn't just kidnap Kat while she sleeps we... really don't know.

Meanwhile, Bulk, Skull & Lieutenant Stone are spying on Kim's coach, as they are convinced he is a spy. Then they get pushed down a laundry chute. Whatever. Kim's coach expresses concern for Kim. Aww.
Adam/Rocky/Aisha are off on a date in the park when Billy calls to let them know that Kim has woken up and the doctor says that she'll be just fine. We don't know why they weren't at the hospital to wait for their friend, but we can only assume they were busy comforting each other. Rito shows up to attack them, and they are very annoyed at being interrupted. It's Ninja Ranger time!
... Ok, we clearly entered the Twilight Zone or something, because Tommy is being really sweet. He brought Kim a bear! He expressed concern! We are not yelling at him to shut up! What madness is this? Why am I suddenly thinking Tommy is being good for Kimberly? My worldview is shattered. SHATTERED. Zordon calls and interrupts the moment and expresses his concern for Kim, who is sorry for worrying him. Zordon was actually paying attention for once, and the SCT are being overwhelmed. Billy and Tommy morph in the hospital room and then teleport straight out of there. Secret identities they are doing it wrong.
Kat comes into Kim's room and confesses everything while the other Rangers are fighting. She is all concerned that they will hate her forever for what she did while under the spell. In further proof that we've entered the twilight zone, two amazing things happen - continuity and characterization. Kimberly (and then the other Rangers) tell Kat about how Tommy began a Ranger, and how strong Rita's magic is, and that they could never hate her for what she did. It is actually really touching, and someone should write me Kim/Kat fic. Kim also says that she is not going to try out for the competition anymore, she's done with gymnastics. Everyone is confused by this, even though it is obvious that Kim is just terrified after falling. Characterization, you are doing it... quite well! Good job, show!
Rita and Zedd are now officially annoyed, so they send down some garbage monster to kidnap Kat. The monster gets them when they're all leaving the hospital, and the Rangers morph and the monster just stands there with Kat until she escapes. Then they call the Shogun Zords, which at one point get trapped in a garbage can, but they immediately break out. It's pretty dull. Except they have a flaming sword! I approve of that.
Rita confronts Billy/Kat/Tommy at the lake and tell them that if they don't turn Kat over to her, then they will destroy Ninjor forever. He is still trapped in a bottle, even though he has managed to get out of bottles before.
Why Rita doesn't just kidnap Kat while she sleeps we... really don't know.

Episode 130- Changing of the Zords Part 1
Sorry it's been so long, guys. Vacations, illness, and family got in the way. But we are back! And we're back with... new zords? Already? Um... well... okay then! Let's spend the whole opening admiring the awesome PRETTY of the cast, shall we? Because that's pretty much what we do at the beginning of every episode.
So this episode starts with Kat, Kim, and Aisha in the Youth Center. Kat comments on their remarkable skill at shopping and we wonder if the mall in Angel Grove has any merchandise left. Kat heads home and gets all mooney over Tommy on the way. She's jealous (under a spell) and wants Kim out of the way so she can have Tommy for herself (did I mention under a spell?). I hate these infidelity subplots (but at least she's under a spell?)
Later, Kim invites Kat to the lake to hang out. Kat doesn't want to go, but then Tommy asks if she's going and suddenly she wants to. Kim is a bit suspicious (understandably so) but they head out anyway. Kat says she'll meet them there.
Finster, meanwhile, has found himself some old forgotten Zords. Or more to the point, he has found where he can find some zords. So he takes Squatt and Baboo and they go in search through dense jungle, making some awesomely hilarious quips on the way, until they sit down to rest and stumble upon the zords.
At the lake, Bulk and Skull have been put in charge of keeping the area clean and safe. Skull sees some kids who appear to be drowning and they rush to the rescue, shedding clothes as they run. I LOVE this sequence. The music, the running, the slow mo, the rush to rescue poor children in desperate need of help. Of course, then I want to smack the little shits for laughing at Bulk and Skull when they jump into the lake because the kids were faking it the whole time. Where are there parents? They ought to be punished for that.
Rita stops Kat in the park. She asks Kat to steal a power coin for her, which Kat gladly agrees to. At the lake, Rita sends down some Tenga warriors to create a diversion. Frankly, the diversion wasn't really necessary. The power coins were all in the bags which were all left carelessly lying about on a table for anybody to pillage. But the Tengas are there and they're wreaking havoc and Kat manages to steal Kim's coin. She also steals a picture of Kim and Tommy.
Kim, in fighting the Tengas, suddenly feels very weak. Her vision goes all blurry. She screams for Tommy (sigh) and he races to protect her by... putting his arm across her chest? Really? I can see the merit in doing so to prevent an airbag from exploding in her face, but I'm not quite sure how that will save her from the Tengas. Anyway, the Tengas run away since Kat has the coin, and the rangers go to morph. Kim can't find her coin and only NOW do they feel the need to contact Zordon. Who, of course, has no idea what's going on.
Zordon explains that Ninjor, when recharging the power coins, tied it into their life forces, so with Kim's coin gone, she's growing weaker and weaker. If they don't get it back, it could kill her. But that happens later, and I spend most of the episode wondering why in the world she's having all these side effects when that never happened in any of the multiple other episodes they lost their coins.
Goldar goes down to Earth and Tommy vows to fight him alone. Kat is told to steal the falcon zord and she's all too happy to comply. She's a very effective evil, I must say, far more so than any of the other rangers when put under an evil spell. She manages to zap Tommy and take the falcon zord (which then looks like an owl, but ends up being a real falcon on Zedd's arm? Okay...). Ninjor, in trying to help, gets trounced by Goldar and then captured. This is pretty bleak and Tommy is sure it's the end. He is upset that Zedd has beaten the power rangers, but really... uh... Zedd hasn't. Not yet. There are still FIVE OTHER RANGERS. FIVE. The Power Rangers is not a solo Tommy-only show here. Even if he wishes it were.
Anyway, Zordon then explains Kim could die as she faints because she's so weak and this would be a totally awesome ending!
Except it's not over yet. Instead we get Kat in a tree (and I really want to call a handsome fireman to come get her out of the tree, and then we want a follow up with Kat on a hot tin roof). She rips the picture of Kim and Tommy in half, throwing away the Kim part and proclaiming that Tommy will be hers. I hate infidelity subplots. *sigh*

Episode 77 - White Light - Part 1
First, a bit of housekeeping. We changed the tag "Green Ranger era" to "Tommy era." Just in case anyone is wondering.
So. Tommy. Yeah. I hate this episode.I loved it when I was ten. But the thing that actually is going to cause the rage blackout happens in part 2, so I'll try not to rant about it that much.
The episode opens with Bulk and Skull (who are decked out as explorers on a safari, IDEK) demand to know where their sandwiches are. Trini snarkily calls them out on their rudeness, as she is awesome.
Kimberly bounces in, all excited because Tommy has sent her a letter (I guess he remembered which Ranger he's actually dating) telling her that he'll be back at the end of the week. I have no idea what happens next, because we held an all caps conversation about this.
second_batgirl: SERIOUSLY, WHERE WAS HE?
queenriley: okay, WHERE THE HELL DID HE GO IN THE FIRST PLACE????? Does he not have SCHOOL???
second_batgirl: APPARENTLY NOT
queenriley: I can't imagine school gives sabbatical for "I lost my ranger powers"
So we finally decided that they have to be on summer vacation or something. We already know that Miss Applebee teaches everything, so I guess that works? (Alternately, the administration knows that they're Rangers and does give a sabbatical for "I lost my powers.")
Anyway, at the Command Center it turns out that Zordon and Alpha are going to work on a project, so they shut down the Command Center without telling the Rangers. Do they not remember what happened the last time Zordon shut down? (I guess since Alpha isn't going to go rescue baby!Dillon this time, they didn't feel the need to call them.) Zedd, who is as awesome at surveillance as Rita was, immediately notices something weird, and then gives us a fish filled explanation about how the Morphin Grid is maintained by a balance of Zedd and Zordon. Right. I guess it's also supported by some giant fish. So Zedd decides this would be a great time to a) capture Tommy again and b) send down a monster named Nimrod.
Back on Earth, Zack, Curtis and Jasosn are playing sports and damn, Jason has nice arms. Then Rita's garbage pail crashes on Earth, and Bulk and Skull decide this is the sign that will tell them who the Power Rangers are. Right. I'm not entirely sure why it took 17 episodes for her to land on Earth. Maybe some fish were blocking her path.
At his uncle's lake, we see Tommy getting out of the lake. Wow, for a moment both of us thought he was naked. Those swim trunks were remarkably close to the color of his skin. Anyway, gratuitous shirtless soaking wet Tommy is gratuitous. And then he gets teleported out by someone in a flash of white light. Hmmm.
Zack wanders over to get a football, and he finds the statue covered in slime, so he calls the others. They are all concerned by the slime, but none of them bother to inspect the back of the statue, which has the monster's head on it. The Rangers soon discover that Zordon isn't answering their communicators, so they teleport to the Command Center which is totally shut down. However, Billy manages to access what we're guessing is the footage from the security cameras, so they teleport down to his lab to check it out.
While in the lab everything starts to shake, so they realize that a monster is attacking. It's Nimrod, and it's two helpers AC and DC. I love this show so much. Midway through the battle Billy teleports to the Command Center to go figure out what Zordon and Alpha are up to. He enters the same code he saw Alpha put in, and falls through the door of light. Instead of ending up in the main room where Alpha and Zordon are, he lands in the room above them, which conveniently has a grate for him to look through. Zordon and Alpha fail at noticing his presence, but Billy is able to see that there's another Ranger....

Billy speak: There was a lot of borderline comments, but the only thing of note was "The activity disc is showing the combination of controls that Alpha coordinated."

Episode 40 - Doomsday Part 2
You know, considering how great part 1 of this episode was, you would think that part 2 would be awesome. And there are some good moments, but honestly we spent about half of it chanting fish at each other.
So, we open at the Command Center, and Zordon is going over the threat again, and he points out that Goldar hasn't brought out his awesome zord in 10,000 years. Of course Goldar hasn't brought it out in 10,000 years. He's been sealed in a can. While we're busy rolling our eyes at that, the next ridiculous statement is made. Apparently it requires 12 hours to charge back up the Megazord. Right now the Zords are only at half power. If they fight at half power and get destroyed, apparently it can destroy the grid. Wait, seriously? Since when does it take that long to charge up? And obviously they've fought at below half power before, considering that the Zords are currently charging. Fish fish fish.
So, they go, and promptly get beaten up. In fact, the Megazord gets its arm cut off. And seriously, that Zord has to be at least semi-sentient at this point, because while the Rangers are all freaking out (seriously, it's the best reaction shot ever) the Megazord manages to defend itself anyway. So they call in the Dragonzord, which promptly loses part of its tail. They keep getting beaten up, and then suddenly the Zords start to disintegrate, and seriously, that was pretty incredible. I mean, the special effects are ridiculous, but seeing the Zords get destroyed like that is pretty powerful.
The Rangers all abandon ship, and demorph back in the park. Apparently Rita is jamming the frequency of their communicators so they can't call the Command Center. Oh, and don't worry, because Billy's about to pull a Billy Ex Machina, and it turns out that the Zords have a failsafe where they teleport back to wherever it is they stay if they're about to be destroyed. If so, seriously, why haven't we heard about this before, and why was Zordon so busy going "blah blah destroy the grid" if you go?
So they head back to Billy's garage, and we get a shot of the Radbug. And I thought we've already established that if you can't contact the Power Chamber, you take the radbug. But Billy apparently has some wacky tool that will fix the communicators. Of course, there hasn't been enough drama in this episode yet, so Goldar and some putties show up to menace them.
Meanwhile, at the Command Center, Zordon is all "woe is me, I can't find the Rangers without their communicators", which is frankly bullshit. But Alpha tells us that since Rita's awesome moon palace is on Earth, apparently they can hack her systems now. I'm getting weird Independence Day flashbacks.
Back at Billy's garage, Goldar is still just standing there and being vaguely threatening. He hasn't even tried to attack yet. And he just watches as the Rangers teleport back to the Command Center.
And guess what? Apparently it must have been WAY MORE than 12 hours, because all of the Zords are just fine! Including Titanus, which must have been rescued from the sandpit by some flying sand-fish. Some other stuff might have happened at this point, but there was a long series of ????? and !!!!!! and flailing and screaming about fish and seriously, show, you could at least try to be consistent within the same episode. Zordon's big plan is that if they just keep changing Zord configurations, they can overwhelm Goldar's Zord. Which... apparently works. Big fight scene. Things blow up. Nothing to say about it really.
So after Cyclopsis blows up (it lost its head last time and still recovered!) Finster blames Goldar, and then Rita packs up her palace and goes back to the moon, and for some reason that makes the entire town reappear in the Park or wherever it was they were gathering.
Some little kids start arguing over which Ranger is the best. One boy likes the Red Ranger, another boy likes the Black Ranger, and a third boy likes the Blue Ranger. A little girl says she likes the Pink and Yellow Rangers, and seriously, couldn't you have gotten a second girl? Or maybe have one of the boys like one of the female Rangers? Is that too much to ask?! Of course, Tommy then makes an appearance (wearing all green, of course) and he tells them a secret - they are all the greatest. (I was really hoping he would say the Green Ranger is the greatest. Oh well.) So the Rangers show up and the all walk up and clap him on the shoulder, and seriously, how come nobody realizes Tommy used to be the Green Ranger?
The mayor makes a speech about how the Rangers are awesome, and that's the end of Power Rangers Day.
But wait, there's more! Back at the Command Center, Zordon says that while they haven't defeated Rita, they have dealt her a major blow. He then offers them the chance to quit. None of them do. Until they go off to a Peace Conference or move to a fish planet, anyway. That would be a great place to end the episode, except then Alpha says he caught a virus. A computer virus. GROAN.
Fish: Four fish. None of the Zord stuff made any sense.
Billy speak: "Rita's undoubtedly jamming the frequency"
"I'm adjusting the modulator to read an alternative signal"
Questions to be answered: What did the people in town experience while they were caught in the alternate dimension? What sort of events should happen at Power Rangers Day?

The mayor makes a speech about how the Rangers are awesome, and that's the end of Power Rangers Day.
But wait, there's more! Back at the Command Center, Zordon says that while they haven't defeated Rita, they have dealt her a major blow. He then offers them the chance to quit. None of them do. Until they go off to a Peace Conference or move to a fish planet, anyway. That would be a great place to end the episode, except then Alpha says he caught a virus. A computer virus. GROAN.
Fish: Four fish. None of the Zord stuff made any sense.
Billy speak: "Rita's undoubtedly jamming the frequency"
"I'm adjusting the modulator to read an alternative signal"
Questions to be answered: What did the people in town experience while they were caught in the alternate dimension? What sort of events should happen at Power Rangers Day?
Episode 39- Doomsday Part 1
This episode starts with the news that it's going to be Power Ranger Day! There is going to be a big celebration in the park and the Rangers are going to make an appearance, all in celebration of the fantastic wonderful things they do to save the city.
Bulk and Skull hide in a corner and decide they want to pretend to be superheroes. They devise a plan to dress up and go to the celebration to reveal themselves as superheroes too. It's a pretty neat idea, but it's not going to go well because as we all know, Bulk and Skull just can't catch a break.
The park is set up with some really awesome, really wacky balloons. Jason and Zack are looking around for Billy, Kim, and Trini. They stumble upon Angela first and Zack asks her to hang out but she, per usual, turns him down. She does say she'd go on a date with him in a heartbeat if he were a Power Ranger! Oh Angela, if only you knew! They meet up with the others and have very loud conversations about wondering if it's time to morph into costume now. Secret identity: you're doing it wrong.
Bulk and Skull show up, change in a small photo booth, and then awesomely jump on stage. They look fantastic in their costumes! They introduce themselves as Bulkster and Super Skull: Boy Wonderful. I'm madly in love with them right now, Skull in particular. TSB has determined that Skull would make a great Robin one day and is intrigued by Skull/Dick Grayson. Hey, Batman exists in this universe. It could totally happen!
Rita plans to transport everybody to an alternate dimension and then take over Angel Grove. It's actually a really good plan. She starts with Bulk and Skull and within minutes, she's managed to teleport every single person except the Rangers. They contact Zordon and she takes her entire palace from the moon all the way to Earth. The palace is much bigger than it looks because underneath all that moon rock is what appears to be a skyscraper. She settles right in the middle of downtown Angel Grove. A prime location, I do believe.
The Rangers morph and call their Zords just in time to meet up with Goldar and HIS shiny new Zord! Yes, Goldar gets a Zord in this episode! It's name is Cyclopsis and it's insanely powerful. It's more powerful than Goldar is, which actually fits in continuity of the show, what with Zords generally being pretty badass compared to non-Zord-wielding Rangers.
The Rangers just can't beat this Zord, so with the MegaZord running on back-up battery power, they call in DragonZord. He is awesome, but still not powerful enough. The awesomeness that is Titanus shows up and lays the smackdown on Cyclopsis. It essentially BEHEADS him and that's the end of that fight!
Or is it? It's not! Rita sinks Titanus! She opens up a big hole in the ground and Titanus goes down! The MegaDragonZord tries to save him by grabbing him 'round his head and tugging, but Rita zaps them with her wand and Titanus is engulfed. It's really really sad. Poor Titanus, his little head poking out of the dirt while he sinks, crying in terror. Oh I could cry myself!
Rita summons Lokar and they know they're in trouble now. The Rangers, out of power, teleport back to the Command Center. Zordon tells them the residents of Angel Grove are safe in the alternate dimension, but they will be trapped there forever. Jason gets very emo and temporarily turns into Captain Obvious, stating that the Rangers are the only hope left for the residents of Angel Grove, but he look so wooby when he says it, I can't fault him for stating the obvious. Oh Jason, I just want to take you home and feed you cookies when you look like that. Zordon then basically tells them if they lose, the world is lost, and their friends and family will be trapped forever. No pressure or anything, though, right Zordon? Uh-huh.
