Episode 324 - The Power of Pink
Sorry about the long delay - we've moved to only recapping once a week due to work schedules, and yesterday was filled with technical difficulties.
So, previously on Power Rangers Lost Galaxy - Andros shows up in his ridiculous cloak, Carlos has ruined his hair, and Psycho Pink is freaking awesome.
The Galaxy Rangers are showing off the Fugzords to the Space Rangers, and for some reason they are really impressed. Cassie is dancing on top of the Pink Galactabeast, who does not seem very amused, as she gets thrown off. Maybe next time don't try surfing on a Fugzord, Cassie!
Trakeena seems to be under the impression that Psycho Pink can destroy all the Rangers, but um, considering that the Psychos got their asses kicked, I'm not really sure how they think that will work. Psycho Pink is all "only going after the pink rangers because they are the best, deal with it" and Trakeena is all "No, do what I say!" but Psycho Pink escapes and breaks the control to go after the Pink Rangers.
Back on Terra Venture, Kendrix is still studying the Galaxy Book and appears to have located the Savage Sword. Meanwhile, someone is making an announcement about underwater navigation classes, and we also find out that all of the computers on Terra Venture are linked, which seems like a stupid idea. Have they never heard of firewalls? Anyway, Psycho Pink travels through the internet to track the Pink Rangers
Kendrix has just discovered that the Savage Sword is on Planet Rashon, but Psycho Pink reaches through the computer to grab her and apparently reads her mind, before leaving to go after the Sword. Kendrix begins chasing after her and runs into Cassie, who joins with her to go after Psycho Pink. instead of calling for backup, the two Pink Rangers fight together. Which, frankly, is amazing, because I think I have made my feelings on Pink Rangers perfectly clear.
Kendrix explains that the Savage Sword is more powerful than all the other swords put together, and the two girls decide to go after it together, although at least they finally do call and let everyone know what's going on. Unfortunately, the other Rangers are all attacked, leaving the Pink Rangers on their own.
Psycho Pink manages to find the Sword in the Stone, and the two other Pinks get there just as she pulls it from the stone. We get a three Pink Ranger fight (if we're counting Psycho Pink, which I totally am) and it is amazing.
Apparently each time they use the sword it gets more powerful, so its like that stupid awful rollout move in Pokemon Gen 2 that always killed me. Plus, apparently getting hit with it drains your energy to heal, so Psycho Pink is getting more powerful as it goes, and the sword is really turning into a BFS.
Cassie gets hurt badly enough that she's forced to demorph, and her morpher is knocked off her wrist. For some reason, Psycho Pink decides that if she stabs the morpher she'll gain all the power, and it seems that she's right, since somehow it happening on ANOTHER PLANET manages to screw with Terra Venture itself, causing the sky of Terra Venture to go bright red.
Cassie's morpher being stabbed appears to be hurting Cassie as well, so its down to Kendrix to fight. However, just when things are going badly, the other Rangers show up in the Fugzord to fight the grown Psycho Pink. Energy is still being drained from Cassie and the Morpher, and Kendrix sits by her, trying to provide her strength.
Then the rest of the Space Rangers show up in their AWESOME Zord, and seriously, teamups are the BEST. I even care about the Zord fights! That almost never happens!
Kendrix appears to have figured out how to save the day, and while Cassie is rolling around the ground in pain, Kendrix tries to force her way into the force field being created by the sword and morpher combination. Cassie shouts at her to stop, as the power of the two zords manage to destroy Psycho Pink once and for all.
However, the field from the sword is still affecting Terra Venture, and Kendrix is still fighting her way through. She makes it through the field, yelling that it is the only way to save Cassie, and she has to do this. Cassie and the others yell at her to stop, that she shouldn't do this, but Kendrix is determined, and she destroys the Savage Sword, and the blowback kills her.
This... was not something I ever thought I would actually see on Power Rangers. For one of them to actual die. But the whole sequence is so well done, and Kendrix being willing to sacrifice herself for others fits so well in with the character, and considering the behind the scenes reason, it's a fitting sendoff for an amazing Ranger.
We see Kendrix's ghost float there, and she tells them that she's okay, and she'll always be here, before she vanishes, and the Quasar Sabre floats off, Cassie's morpher being repaired in the process.
The episode ends with the Rangers all saying goodbye, although for some reason, all the Space Rangers are morphed. Cassie is clearly blaming herself for what happened, and the Space Rangers are all going off on their own mission, whatever the hell that is. The episode ends with the Galaxy Rangers asking what they should do now.
Fish: Honestly, we were too busy crying through most of it to even see the fish, so we're giving it a 1.
Fic we want: The aftermath. Seriously, Cassie is pretty clearly blaming herself, and losing a friend is hard. Aftermath fic.
Personal Note: After everything that happened, and us losing Kim a few weeks ago, this episode was actually what I needed. I know this isn't exactly my personal blog, but hearing a Pink Ranger, a color that Kim identified so heavily with, say that she'll always be here... well, she always will be in our memories. ♥

Episode 323- To the Tenth Power
Today on Power Rangers, we get to see the Space Rangers again!
We start off with data cards! DATA CARDS! And wanton murder of shady alien who had the data cards. BUT DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS???? DATA CARDS! SPAAAAACCCCCEEEEEEEEEE. Deviot reanimates the Psycho Rangers and ALL IS RIGHT WITH THE WORLD. They are all there and it's wonderful. They totally don't want to listen to Trakeena but she is more evil than they are and makes them listen.
Andros is back in his Cloak of Not-A-Good-Disguise and is disappointed to discover he is too late to stop the transfer of the Psycho Rangers. On Terra Venture, Damon is sad because he carries all the groceries while Maya eats an apple. A hand appears out of the ground and trips him, causing him to spill the groceries. Maya is then kidnapped. Damon is then kidnapped. I LOVE KIDNAPPED RANGERS! Now if only they could be held in the Cave of Captivity. But alas, they are far away from Angel Grove.
Kai and Kendrix are stuck fighting their Psycho counterparts, UNMORPHED, and they LOSE. And then we see Leo's arms! OMG IT'S THE BEST EPISODE EVER. Because Leo is working out and has a FLUFFY PINK TOWEL OF FLUFFY PINKNESS. It's adorable. Then he helps a Tiny Child who is crying, but isn't actually a Tiny Child. It's Psycho Red in disguise, because he totally knows Leo's weakness is Tiny Children in distress. And he totally overpowers him. Quickly.
Leo is only saved because Andros shows up in his Cloak of Not-A-Good-Disguise. Leo is all hero worshiping him because OMG LEO WAS THERE THE DAY THE SPACE RANGERS SAVED THE EARTH AND I LOVE THIS WITH SO MUCH LOVE OMG. The two of them together... it's like the Angstiest Angsty Ranger Reunion. We just need Adam and it would be the Trifecta of Angst! *so many hearts in my eyes*
HAPPY ALPHA IS HAPPY! He is so excited to see Andros. And Andros is all "Don't be too happy, cause your friends are fucked." and also explains the psychos as "everything you are, except the opposite." He takes Leo and Mike to see the Space morphers which have been stashed on the MegaShip this whole time. WHY ARE THEY STILL THERE? SO MANY FISH! I don't care. This is WONDERFUL.
Leo blows up a wall with Andros, all morphed and happy, to stop Trakeena and save his friends. Trakeena is all "Yeah, whatever, I got this." and Andros has no clue what he's in for. Meanwhile, Alpha discovers intruders on the MegaShip stealing the Space morphers. DUH WE KNOW WHO IT IS. Way to try to be sneaky and FAIL MISERABLY show.
Mike breaks the others out and they all go to fight. Damon gives them a chance to get away and they are stupid and don't take it. Because the psychos are all "There are only seven of you, pshaw" until TJ shows up with Cassie, Ashley, and Carlos and is all "TRY ELEVEN OF US!" because they are awesome. Also, Carlos cut off all his hair and it makes me sad.
Everybody fights with their own colour against their own Psycho counterpart and that's probably not the best plan but whatever because GIANT EXPLOSIONS AND THEME SONGS AND AND AND. And how could I say no to TJ and Kai fighting together? And Damon and Carlos! And Cassie and Kendrix are OMGSOADORBS! They call out all the toys and totally win, as well they should when there are ELEVEN BADASS RANGERS ON MY SCREEN.
Back on the MegaShip, Alpha nearly explodes from Happy. Leo asks how they knew and Carlos says Alpha put out a distress signal so they had to come. Unfortunately they can't stay long since they're needed back on Earth (and how they got there, and how they'll get back, I don't know and just don't care because this is great). Maya is going to give them the grand tour. Meanwhile, the pink psycho climbs out of the rubble and is confronted by Deviot, who is disappointed in her even though SHE IS THE ONLY SURVIVOR OF THE WHOLE ORDEAL SHOWING SHE IS THE STRONGEST FOR REALS.
The only thing wrong with this episode is Carlos' hair. It is all gone and gives me a sad. Everything else is beautiful and wonderful and totally amazing.
1.5 fish. It only had this much because, seriously, how did they get there in the first place? And also, Carlos' hair. Just... the hair!
Episode 322 - The Chameliac Warrior
We start off with Mike showing off his really nice arms. We have to give the brothers credit - seriously, niiiiiiiiiiiiiice. He's jogging and stretching and then he hears some villains who have (once again) infiltrated Terra Venture. Man, this space ship has HORRIBLE security. I guess the same people who designed this also designed Corinth.
Somehow he notices that the villains have dropped a disc and grabs it, but is noticed by the villains. The MotW not only knows Mike's fighting style (and has copied his blaster), but somehow knows it better than him. Mike and his swirly cape gets rescued by the other Rangers, and they decide to investigate what was on the disc to see what Villemax was up to.
Mike is all bandaged (including one around his hair for some reason) but he looks fine. At least when Leo is in the hospital wing, he looks all beaten up. Seriously, we could use more beaten up Leo and Mike. Mike continues to explain how it seems like the monster knew exactly how he fought and was able to copy him.
Up on Trakeena's ship, the monster is analyzing all of the Rangers moves so that he will be able to copy them. This scene goes on FOREVER. I guess they really had to fill some time in this episode. After what seems like FOREVER he is done copying their moves.
The villains are constructing something (and seriously, worst security ever) and the villains are tipped off that the Rangers are on their way. Apparently the villains are constructing a laser, but Chameliac is going to distract them until its ready. The Rangers morph and fight the Stingwingers, and the Rangers each go up against Chameliac in turn and they get thoroughly beaten. The Rangers summon the fish of Orion, but Chameliac does the same, and turns the fish back against them.
As Chameliac says, not only can he do anything they can do better, but he makes it look good.
While they're discussing what's going on, Maya is cuddling Kendrix, and that is worth discussing. Kai is all "we need a plan" and he rambles on about computers, but Leo is all "ok, just feed them wrong information."
Mike starts removing the useless bandages and is analyzing the laser data. (Although for some reason he leaves on the useless head bandage. I guess they just wanted to hide his hair, which is surprisingly not floppy.)
The Rangers all go to investigate the laser and morph. They use each others fighting styles/supposed signature moves that we haven't really noticed before to confuse/destroy the monster (although of COURSE Leo has to show off his ridiculous motorcycle thing.)
Chameliac grows and the fug zords get summoned, and Mike realizes that the big plan is for the laser to destroy the fug zords. However, he shows up just in time and shoots the laser, destroying it. The Fugazord gets formed but it seems Chameliac has also copied the Megazords moves, so they summon another Megazord and blow him up.
Leo and Mike go jogging to show off their arms, and then the fugly Lion Zord shows up to thank them for saving him from being destroyed by the laser.
Fish: 5. This was ridiculous.

Episode 321 - A Red Romance
Today on Power Rangers, Leo forgets about Kai for a little while because he saves a girl.
A pretty girl is riding her bike, crashes, and flies through the air. Leo catches her before she hits the ground. Her brother freaks out and attacks him, but she's able to explain.
Meanwhile, Trakeena is employing a female monster thing. She looks like a purple body builder with blonde hair. But she's powerful, so that's cool.
Back on Terra Venture, Bike Accident Girl's brother fixes her bike. Leo is there, for some reason, and admires the guy's dirt bike. Why the guy has a big garage on a small space station with limited space, I have no idea. But he lets Leo ride it and there are stupid tricks and it's corny, so that's okay. Bike Accident Girl likes Leo. Leo backs into a barrel because he's smitten too. Bike Accident Girl's Brother is less than impressed.
Bike Accident Girl (who's name is Ginger apparently) sets up a date anyway and Leo tries to show off, then trips on a tennis ball. He's adorably bad at this whole "impress girls" thing. He should just stick with Kai. She has a good time. He has a good time. And the date ends without a goodbye kiss. Oh Leo. REALLY BAD AT THIS.
Of course, there is a monster attack and Bike Accident Girl gets captured. And Leo has to save the day. Because she's incapable of running away or saving herself, of course. Leo has to go tell The Brother and it does not go well. Overprotective Brother is very overprotective. (but I totally get behind him loving and caring for his sister... good brother in that regard anyway)
And then Overprotective Brother (who is Colby, but I like Overprotective Brother better) blames Leo for everything, even though it wasn't Leo's fault. Leo tries to hug him, which is adorable, and Overprotective Brother will be having none of that. It's very sad and full of man pain. And I kind of want to smack them both. Because, y'know, she really ought to be capable of taking care of herself. Stop holding her back, guys, and let her be her own person! (and they're both kind of having issue with this)
Overprotective Brother confronts the monster so he can rescue his sister. That doesn't go well either. Leo mopes for awhile and is all Emo. Alpha tells him about the monster attacking Overprotective Brother and instead of letting Alpha call the others, Leo RUSHES IN TO FIGHT ON HIS OWN. Because he's a freaking IDIOT.
But then he jumps, unmorphed, in front of a blast meant for Overprotective Brother and I don't care anymore because that is my THING. And now I ship them. Let them be assholes to each other.
And then there are rangers righting and it's boring. And apparently badass female monster is only badass because of her necklace and not because she's actually powerful all in her own right. *sigh* Stupid show.
They fail at the whole secret identity thing (seriously? "Leo called us!"? Really guys?) and Overprotective Brother demands his sister and refuses to let the rangers fight and it's just... bad. They fight anyway. There are lots of dirt bike fighting and racing and it makes no sense.
They release the prisoners, Leo rushes to Ginger at the same time as Colby and then has to stop himself. Meanwhile, the monster grows and they have to call out all the toys (they totally win, duh). Everybody else runs away. Colby and Ginger just kind of stand there. Because they are clearly the smartest, right? Big huge monster right in front of you and you STAND STILL? Seriously Leo, go back to Kai. You'll be happier.
Battle over, Ginger thanks Leo for trying to save her. Colby won't talk to Leo. He's pouting. Ginger talks him into going to apologize, so he rides his dirt bike to catch up to Leo who left all of 30 seconds ago. Why he didn't just run out the door I have no idea. Whatever. He apologizes. They have about ten times more chemistry than Leo/Any Girl.
I still think he needs to go back to Kai.
4 fish. I alternated between bored and angry with this episode. That is not a good combination.
Episode 320 - Loyax's Last Battle
This episode recap is dedicated to a dear friend who we lost this last weekend. RIP, Kim. We love you, and we lost you way too soon. And you will always be remembered for the good you did, and the wonderful friend that you were.
We didn't plan the timing of this episode, but in some ways it ended up being oddly appropriate.
Maya and Damon are sparring in the forest dome, and it's great and is clearly leading up to some sparring sex. Maya knocks Damon down, and then Leo makes the mistake of saying "pretty well for a girl" and raaaaaaaaaaaaaaage.
Meanwhile, the assorted villains are talking about an honorable old warrior named Loyax. Loyax is all "I'm old, but I want to go out in battle against a worthy opponent." Basically. Clearly going up against the Power Rangers would be a glorious ending, and well, that is true. (Of course, if he defeats them, then how is that an ending? I mean. Really. Logic. Use some.)
Loyax starts smashing things in the ocean dome, and I'm not even sure why we still bother to comment on things like an ocean dome, because um, look, Terra Venture makes no sense at all. I could ALMOST buy the forest and mountains, but OCEAN. I guess the fish need somewhere to live.
Anyway, Maya is taking the lead in the fight, and Leo is all "no, fight me instead" but Maya is all "Hell no." Loyax and Maya end up falling off a cliff into the ocean. And again. OCEAN. ON A SPACE SHIP.
None of the Rangers are able to find Maya, and Trakeena also assumes that Loyax has been destroyed.
Meanwhile, Loyax and Maya are in a cave. Maya has a cut on her leg, and as we know from the Turbo movie, that is fatal. Loyax is rambling all of his emo at Maya, and going on about what a horrible ending this is. Loyax then offers to heal Maya, even though they're enemies. Loyax is all "to survive, we must work together" since he can't see as well as she can in the dark, and she can't walk. So he carries her out of the cave, with her giving directions, and I don't understand how they ended up in the cave in the first place, considering they FELL INTO THE OCEAN.
As soon as they're out of the cave, Loyax drops her and is all "going to defeat you now, girl." Deviot is all "I'm going to make sure you win" and Loyax is pissed because his last battle will be an honorable one. Of course, Maya is having a harder time of it since she's injured, but she manages to impress Loyax anyway.
When Deviot is about to destroy Loyax over his honor, Maya rescues him, and Ranger and "villain" go off together. Loyax once again is all "ready to battle? It will be a fair fight." Maya is meanwhile trying to convince him that they don't need to fight, but instead Loyax tells her his life story. Apparently at one point he fought on the side of good, but at some point he ended up serving the same evil he once sought to destroy. And now he feels that all that is left is one last battle - with Maya.
The other four Rangers go up against Deviot, while Maya continues to argue with Loyax. She initially refuses to fight, but ends up morphing. The two separate fights are actually pretty entertaining, I'll give them that. While the four Rangers are busy, Deviot sneaks off to deal with Loyax, who is still fighting with Maya. Maya is doing pretty great - I love episodes where the female Rangers get to be awesome. Maya keeps on arguing with Loyax that they can end the battle, but he continues to refuse. She beats him, but refuses to kill him, because he can be good again.
Just when Loyax is about to take her hand and agree, Deviot attacks Loyax and forces him to grow. Deviot is also controlling Loyax via remote control. This obviously gets the other Rangers attention, and its time to summon the fugly zords. Since they need more help, they summon even more Zords, although there is no sign of the Emo Defender.
The Rangers manage to destroy the control device, and Loyax snaps that nobody will ever make him be evil again. He starts to attack Deviot, but one last control is activated, and Loyax is destroyed right after thanking Maya for showing him the truth.
Back on the beach of the ocean dome, Maya finds Loyax's sword. She tells the sword that Loyax won the last battle - by providing that he was still good. She plants the sword in the sand, and the five Rangers go off together.
Fish: 2. And really, only because OCEAN DOME? REALLY?

Episode 319 - Mean Wheels Mantis
Wow, this episode was a) dull and b) makes no sense. A whole episode about getting a new toy, with nothing else to offer. I apologize in advance. Recapping races (of the non-wacky variety) is really dull.
We get a shot of some mountains, and the geography of this colony still makes no sense. Maya is, for some reason, up a tree, and having a conversation with her fugly zord. She insists that talking to her zord is easy, and starts pulling a Pocahontas listen with your heart thing.
Meanwhile, Trakeena has a new monster courtesy of Deviot, and he's really annoying. He's a Mantis on a bike, and seriously, I wonder how the colony manages to keep rebuilding all the buildings that are destroyed. I mean, its not like they have unlimited resources. They are on a space ship.
Maya and Kendrix show up and fight him, and the girls are pretty awesome! Just as the other Rangers show up, Maya and Kendrix get turned into trophies. Mantis is all "Won't change them back unless you beat me in a race" and at least this episode is giving me an excuse to link to Wacky Races. The boys start chasing him around the dome, and seriously, the geography of Terra Venture makes NO SENSE at all. The monster is, of course cheating, and Kai gets knocked out by a rope placed on the road. Damon gets taken out by some falling rocks, so only Leo is left.
Leo and the monster fight and the monster manages to beat him via more cheating, and the monster vanishes with the trophies of Maya and Kendrix. Leo is blaming himself for this, even though a) monster cheated and b) Damon and Kai also got knocked out.
Damon is all "our bikes are trashed, we're screwed" and he also insists that its too dangerous. Of course, since Damon is also Miles O'Brien, he will come up with something brilliant. But really, he is only one man, and he can only do so much.
The Fug Zords try to talk to Leo, and somehow he understands that they're telling him he needs more power? Or something? So he takes his bike (which is fixed, because Damon is brilliant) and goes to find the monster. Leo puts up his saber as the stakes for the race.
The monster continues to cheat by shooting at him and jumping on his bike and just generally cheating. But Leo thinks about his friends and listens with his heart and somehow that makes his bike morph into a new bike. I... am not sure how listening with your heart manages to create a new bike that can also turn into a fireball but whatever, for Power Rangers, this somehow makes sense. I guess. The fish did it or whatever.
Damon is really impressed with the bike, and I still have NO IDEA HOW THE BIKE WAS CREATED. Anyway, since this episode is even more about selling toys than normal, we get the zord fight on top of the buy the shiny new bike toy propaganda.
Leo tells Maya that he learned about the cycle from the beast, and then tells her a story about baby galactabeasts, which is adorable, but also bullshit. Basically, Leo's whole plan boils down to keeping his fingers crossed and hoping for the best. I bet he supports the Chudley Cannons.
And then the team has an orgy.
Fish: Five. Seriously. What. This was the most blatant "buy the new toy" episode in a while.
Episode 318 - Blue to the Test
So. We took a bit of a long break there. Neither of us were in a terribly good place and something had to fall, so this community was it. But we're doing (mostly) better now and so we're back! We thank those of you who stuck with us through this and we hope to maintain a more regular schedule again.
So we're back on the space colony. Kai is working diligently, plotting courses and making plans and just being a badass. The commander is trying to get Kai to think for himself, to teach him and help him grow as a person, so he gets Kai to admit that changing course now would be more beneficial than waiting. He'd adorably overcautious and I applaud his forethought. Kai is so smart.
Meanwhile, Trakeena can't understand her own science nerd, but she listens to him anyway. She's going to plot to get the Rangers to burn up in a star. She's cool like that.
We get to see the Commander's daughter again (yay continuity! Although the actress looks like my sister-in-law so it's a little weird at the same time) and she's drawing a picture of her father. It's cute and sweet and he is appropriately impressed. And then there's a monster attack! Because Tiny Children must be put in sort-of danger in this show. The Commander hides his daughter and rushes out to start getting people out of the way. He gets shot with an arrow and won't wake up while his Tiny Child cries for him and awwww my heart just cracked a little there. The rangers rush in to help and Tiny Child still cries for her Daddy and completely ignores them. Because she's a good little girl.
Her father wakes up but is clearly not himself. Instead of suggesting he go to the med bay to get checked out, they just walk away. He throws his little girl off and then steps on the picture she drew. She is very sad. Poor Tiny Child.
Back at the Command Center, Kai is ordered to shut down engines "to conserve power" and he starts to argue, but the Commander tells him not to think and to just follow orders. Kai shuts down the engines but he clearly knows something is wrong, to the point that he burns dinner later (and tries really hard not to say "shit" and says "shoot" instead). Leo asks if something is bothering him, he admits there is, and Damon is all "Well worry about it later. I need to eat, bro." Mostly we just want an entire show of Cooking with the Rangers.
Back at the Command Center, Kai is told to plot in a course that will send them straight into the star. The Commander plays it off as gravity giving them speed and Kai stands up to him. He knows his science and actually refuses a direct order, because it will save the ship and everybody aboard. He is then suspended from duty. And some random guy changes the course that Kai wouldn't change. Why does nobody else stop and say "Hey wait, let's just check his math, mkay?" Seriously people, trust your Blue Rangers. They are (usually) the smartest.
Kai FINALLY figures out that the Commander is probably possessed and decides to follow him around. TOOK YOU LONG ENOUGH, GUYS. Seriously. Kai sees him talking to a monster and just confronts them without calling for backup or anything. Kai is a terrible spy. But we get an unmorphed fight and it's great! Mind, Leo and the others have to step in to save his ass, but that's okay. Kai runs off to stop the Commander and the others stall the monster for him. Kai stands up to him and it's GREAT, though he really ought to explain plans to his team first. I suppose he didn't really have time this time? Still, would be a good lesson to learn.
Kai has an awesome unmorphed fight with the Commander and I would approve of nearly an entire episode like this. Kai is such a badass. Mind, the Commander is kicking his ass, so we have to wonder if he got enhanced skills due to the spell? Or maybe he's just that good with his military training.
The rangers all get together to fight the monster and they call out all the toys and it's kind of boring. But there is archery, which is cool. Even if it's plastic and fake. They win. Of course. We'd expect nothing less.
Big fight over, Kai and Mike rush to check on the Commander. Spell broken, he's himself again and can't remember a darn thing he just did. Kai gets him back to Command and they're able to stop the ship from plummeting into the red giant star. Kai takes his position back and they change course at the last minute, just breaking free of the gravitational pull.
Kai is playing with Tiny Commander Spawn and she rushes to her father when he pulls up. He's sad he ruined her picture so asks her to draw him another one. Then he gives Kai a present! Because Kai saved the day and was willing to disobey orders to do it. So he gets a new uniform and put in charge while the Commander takes the day off. Hahaha, not so sure how that's a present, but he seems proud and happy, so it's all good. Everybody waits for his command and then applauds him and he still gets to be in command, because he is AMAZING.
3.5 fish. Not too bad, but really it shouldn't have taken them THAT long to figure out something was wrong. And somebody, somewhere, should have changed course before the ship got that close to the star, especially after the Commander left.
