I'm sorry, but there are about 87 better gold based puns that they could have made. I am taking suggestions.
Anyway, this episode is notable for two things - Adam doesn't dance and Tanya thinks Patrick Swayze and Gene Kelly are hot. Tanya has great taste in men. (Seriously, half the point of this recap was to link to these three clips.)
So, Kat is late to her own ballet class because she's trying to find stuff for the ballet they're putting on. Because they're studying Greek Mythology and just read the King Midas story, and... somehow this translated into "Kat should choreograph a ballet." Sure. Right. Somehow Kat has blackmailed Jason and Adam into dancing in the ballet. Jason doesn't seem all that upset about it, but Adam is pretty horrified and constantly trying to get out of it. We're pretty sure he only agreed because Tanya told him he would look good in tights.
To deal with the villains quickly - Zedd and Rita's camper gets a flat, and they spend most of the episode trying to fix it. Zedd is handy like that! Meanwhile, Louie Kaboom takes over the Machine Empire because... he can. IDEK. He comes up with a plan to turn everything into gold, because it's time to pay way too much attention to the Rangers' lives again.
While Adam and Jason continue to suck at ballet, Bulk and Skull listen to Tanya talk about how dancers are wicked hot (she also mentions Mikhail Baryshnikov, but personally, I'm all about Gene Kelly and Patrick Swayze and Fred Astaire.) For some reason, Bulk and Skull bet Tanya that they can find everything she needs for the ballet. If they do, she and Kat pay them twice their going rate. If they don't, they agree to do anything. Boys, this is not going to end well for you.
Bulk and Skull go hit a bunch of garage sales, and they find the gold toy dog sent by the machine empire that turns stuff into gold. They're very excited about being rich, until the dog turns the hot dog into gold. What a waste of a good hot dog. Anyway, they run straight to Kat and Adam in the Youth Center, who go investigate. Cogs show up, and they have to morph while fighting, which was pretty great.
The other Rangers come help, and Jason gets turned to gold. Except even though he was morphed, he's suddenly demorphed? Look, nothing in this episode makes sense. Tommy continues to spy on the Machines while Billy tries to fix Jason. Then for some reason there's some nonsense about Adam having to go prepare the zord bay while everyone else summons their Zords which are all getting turned into gold? Jason gets fixed and more Zords are summoned, and frankly, it made no sense and we actually spent most of the fight discussing which Rangers had sex in the back of their Zords, which is frankly way more interesting.
Later at the ballet, since Bulk and Skull failed to get everything on the list, they have replaced Adam and Jason in the ballet. Personally, I think Adam is protesting way too much. Bulk and Skull are actually trying, which is great, except sadly they end up falling down. Of course.
Fish: 4. What the hell was Adam doing during the Zord fight? Seriously, why did he have to go and hang out in the Zord bay?
Fic we want: Apparently I'm writing Rangers playing I Never fic. IDEK.

Episode 194- The Joke's On Blue
For an episode with Blue in the title, this one has very little to do with Rocky.
There is a new kid in school. He says Angel Grove is much bigger than his old school and all I can imagine is he was home schooled because really? Angel Grove only had two teachers until half a season ago. :P
New Kid shows up just as a rash of practical jokes begin taking place. Rocky loses three plates of french fries to an unscrewed ketchup bottle, teachers get pies to the head, Tanya even gets something squirted all over her from the mustard bottle. There is glitter EVERYWHERE. Bulk and Skull are determined to find out who this practical joker is, and Mrs. Rodriguez will pay them handsomely if they do. Except they have rival detectives! Humphrey and Bogart, who totally don't deserve those names, challenge Bulk and Skull to figure out who can solve the mystery first. All the props come from Angel Grove Novelty Shop. Not terribly surprisingly, nobody bothers to go check with the store.
Meanwhile, on the moon, Sprocket is upset because his big brother is back in town. Prince Gasket and his wife Archerina have come to protect the family while Mondo is away. Archerina shoots love arrows and makes creatures fall in love with her. Louie Kaboom totally falls for her and she makes him go to Earth and attack the Power Rangers. She is totally awesome, although alas, she does not make Stone fall in love with a video game or Ernie with his blender. Anyway, Archerina and Gasket fell in love, but they were from rival robot families and the fathers would never approve. So they did the smart thing and ELOPED instead of committing mutual suicide (eloping is romantic, KILLING YOURSELF FOR A BOY/GIRL IS NOT... can you tell I don't like Romeo and Juliet? It's a thing about me. Sorry) I do love their love story.
So Louie goes down to fight. Fights are boring and take up a lot of time. We spent most of it further discussing which rangers lost their virginity in the Zords. It was far more entertaining.
They win, Louie is a goner, Gasket is in charge now. Back at the Youth Center, Undeserving Humphrey and Not-Cool-Enough-For-His-Name Bogart totally accuse New Kid of being the prankster behind all the jokes. He denies it, but they won't relent. Until Kat and Tanya lead the Angel Grove Novelty Shop guy into the room with the latest shipment of supplies for the Fraudsters. Bulk and Skull eventually put two and two together and Mrs. Rodriguez, now knowing who was setting all the practical jokes, tells Bulk their check is in the mail.
1.5 fish! It's a rare low fish episode! I think it's because there was hardly any Tommy...

Episode 192 - The Lore of Auric
Warning, rage blackout ahead.
SO, we open in a poorly disguised Indiana Jones movie, with two people running from machines, where they end up in a cave, and basically go about proving themselves to be the worst archaeologists since Indiana Jones and Lara Croft. They also scream a lot.
However, they manage to find the lost tiki or Auric, which looks suspiciously like Magneto and after they pull it off the stand with a whip, Louie Kaboom comes and takes it from them, leaving them to die in the temple death traps.
Meanwhile, at the beach club, Kat brings Tanya a package that was delivered to their house. It's from Aisha! AISHA. You know what this show is missing? AISHA. Seriously, she just needs to come back and fix everyone's problems. Also enclosed in the package is a GIANT KEY and a map that apparently leads to Mysterio Island where Tanya's parents vanished from years ago. Apparently she's thought they were dead this whole time? Really? But now she knows they might be alive and she can maybe find them and this island that can't be found.
Tanya goes to ask Zordon if he can teleport her there, and he's all "no powers for personal gain" except decides to make an exception so she can go. Then out of NOWHERE Jason is all "Hey Tanya, why don't you trust me with the key?" and pouts and she looks totally confused as to why he thinks she isn't going to need the key, but for some reason she hands it over to him.
WHAT. JUST WHAT. Jason had NO RIGHT to ask her for that key. It has NOTHING to do with him. And of course he is promptly going to LOSE IT and SERIOUSLY HE IS THE WORST FRIEND EVER. Why would you go parade the key around? If they needed to put it in a safe place, WHY NOT THE POWER CHAMBER? Tanya has known Jason for ALL OF THREE EPISODES and this is STUPID.
Louie Kaboom uses the key to wake up Auric the Conqueror, who apparently only helps good people, so he refuses to help Louie. (Why he has Conqueror in his name, we don't know.) Sprocket is way smarter, and instead tells him that the Rangers are evil and he needs Auric's help to stop them from conquering, and Auric calls Sprocket a little metal boy and agrees. Sprocket is a pretty good manipulator.
Jason summons Pyramidas and goes to try and reason with Auric, and he fails at it. Rocky is wearing a really preppy shirt, which is frankly more interesting because I am still mad at Jason. Since Jason fails, they have to call Tanya back and prevent her from finding her parents at this point. Tanya is actually really cool about it and doesn't punch out Jason, which is way more than I would do, but they summon the Zords and say Zordon's name, and Auric realizes that they're the good guys. Because Zordon is totally famous.
Bulk and Skull lose another of Detective Stone's cars. Stone should really stop entrusting the cars to them.
For some reason, Tanya GIVES JASON THE KEY. NO. THAT IS STUPID. She goes on and says that she can't think of anyone she would trust more. I CAN NAME FIVE OR SIX OTHER PEOPLE. I'm seriously angry about this - Jason had no right to ask her for it in the first place.
She goes back and finds her parents who are about to be burned alive, but she turns the switch and saves her parents, and they ask who she is, and she says her name and there's a tearful reunion.
Fish: FIVE. JASON, YOU FAIL.
Fic we want: Seriously, Auric is totally Magneto. Make it happen.

Episode 191- The Scent of a Weasel
Let me start off by saying most of this episode was incredibly boring to me. I don't like fashion. I don't UNDERSTAND fashion... as in it literally makes no sense to me no matter how hard I try. For me, clothes are meant to keep you warm and they HAVE to be comfortable. If it's not comfortable, it's not worth it. And very little clothing is actually comfortable. So I don't get fashion and I don't get fashion shows or models or anything like that. Don't bother trying to explain it to me. I won't get it, it would be a waste of time. Nod and smile and enjoy the fashion bits yourself, mkay?
So we start off with a charity fashion show. We have no clue what the charity is and all it seems to really be doing is promoting a perfume, but whatever. Some dude with a bad French accent is using local talent in the show with one supermodel. Rocky is part of this local talent. He runs into other people. Poor Rocky.
Detective Stone is in charge of guarding the supermodel. He puts Bulk and Skull on the job which is actually a really good idea for a change. Bulk kind of fails, but Skull is actually in the show as a skunk and does a good job watching out for her. He accidentally knocks over a huge bottle of the perfume and it spills all over the supermodel, who now STINKS. Skull apologizes and they have the most adorable exchange ever and I LOVE THEM SO GUYS, OKAY? BEST PART OF THIS WHOLE EPISODE. (Also, Jason Narvy is definitely the best actor of the whole entire series EVER)
Meanwhile, the stinky supermodel gives Machina an idea. She makes a skunk monster that makes people smell. 5 year old children everywhere ignore the rest of the episode and focus on the Fart Monster. The rangers can't smell the bad through the helmets, but they got skunked and Billy has to try to find a remedy.
There is also some subplot of a thing hurtling towards Earth and Billy keeps trying to make contact with it instead of actually trying to protect the Earth from it and y'know, I appreciate his alien fetish and all, but there comes a time when not blowing up the Earth is more important than making contact! It turns out it's a wheel zord from Trey. It's just like Tommy's except Jason gets to pilot this one. Joy.
There is a boring fight where the rangers blow up the skunk monster by exploding his butt, and the show totally lost the 5 year old children completely here. He grows, they fight, they win, yada yada boring.
At the fashion show, Jason decided to impress Emily (whom he's entirely smitten with, by the way) by volunteering to model. They put him in golf pants, but at least he's wearing red. Supermodel thanks Detective Stone for putting Skull in charge of her safety. He did a great job and even got the smell off her by bathing her in lots of tomato juice. At the end of the show, he promotes the perfume and she kisses him. AWWWWWWW.
2 fish. It was pretty low, all things considered!
Fic we want: Emily totally breaking up with Jason because she has a crush on the Gold Ranger. You know it could happen.

Episode 190 - Bomber in the Summer
It appears to be summer in Angel Grove, and don't ask how this timeline works, because seriously, Angel Grove isn't just its own country, it has its own weird sense of time as well. But Ernie is taking advantage of the heat to open up a side business by opening a beach club.
Unfortunately, it appears that Angel Grove has a biker gang, and they don't particularly like the idea of people using their beach. You can tell that they're bad because one of them popped a wheelie.
Jason and the Rangers are all "We are tough" but the biker gang isn't having it, and neither is Ernie, who just doesn't want any trouble. I keep wondering where the police are, and then I remember this is Angel Grove and that's how this works.
The bad girl on the back of a guy's bike makes eyes at Jason, and she has a significant necklace.
Meanwhile, Rito and Goldar are doing their work for Rita and Zedd, which involves shooting a rocket at the Machine Empire which turns out to be a monster named Louie Kaboom, who is very annoying. They lose the remote control and make Bulk and Skull look for it while Louie Kaboom tries to take things over within the Machine Empire.
At the Juice Bar, the Rangers are very sad that they can't use their powers for personal gain to stop the biker gang, when significant necklace girl (Emily) comes in, and Jason immediately recognizes her as the biker girl, and figures that if Tommy can ditch him for a blonde, he might as well do the same. So he uses his powers of looking concern and inspirational speeches to convince her to take a walk with him, where she tells him a sob story about being the new girl and having no other friends. They promptly run into Louie Kaboom who turns the significant necklace into a monster. Jason tells Emily to run, and she does, while Jason tries to take on the monster on his own. How this is different than Rocky last episode, I have no idea.
Anyway, the other Rangers show up and there's a fight, and Billy manages to rewire the remote and everything is boring while Jason goes to fight cogs.
Back at the beach club, the biker gangs feel guilty because of how Jason saved Emily, and now Emily works for Ernie and everyone is happy and this is COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS.
Fish: 3.5. I'm sorry, doesn't Angel Grove's police department do anything?
Fic we want: Jason and Tommy talking about being the sixth ranger and having to run off while the regular team does stuff. Also, Jason and Emily are totally Sky's parents. YOU KNOW THIS IS TRUE.

Episode 189- Mondo's Last Stand
I freaking love this episode, guys. It spawned the only other Rocky pairing I can legitimately ship (that is not Rocky/Adam, that is)!
So we start off with Jason and Adam sparring. It's Very Pretty. Rocky comes up and asks Tommy if he'll train with him, but Tommy is too busy because he trades places with Adam. Bulk and Skull tease him about being replaced and he doesn't really buy it at first. Until he goes to talk to Billy and he runs away to learn a new kata from Jason. Poor Rocky! He really feels like he's being replaced. Bulk and Skull being bullies about it doesn't exactly help, but still. He's getting brushed off a lot here.
Meanwhile, some lady hires the detectives to find the original model for the Burble Baby Food jars. They estimate he would be a teenager and a recent transfer to Angel Grove. They suspect Jason. They are WRONG.
In harassing Jason, Bulk and Skull dislodge his communicator. The others are called to a fight and Jason is left behind. He never checks in, never joins them, never tries to get to the Power Chamber. We don't know what he does. The others, once the fight is over, are left to split up and go find him. Rocky pouts about this, especially because as he's trying to leave the door closes on his face and WILL NOT OPEN FOR HIM. Oh Rocky.
Mondo is searching for the Sword of Damocles right where Rocky is searching for Jason. He comes across Mondo and decides to show the others that he's important too and takes on Mondo all on his own. Oh Rocky, honey, this is not one of your more brilliant plans. He does actually hold his own for awhile at least!
But he's forced to retreat and then Mondo goes to attack the city. Rocky blames himself, as he is wont to do, and we just have to wonder... where the heck were the others during all this? They all show up at the same time with Jason, but really? They couldn't have helped him earlier? Reassured him or something? Meh. And how did Zordon NOT NOTICE his ranger fighting Mondo ALONE?!?!?!?!
Anyway, they have to go fight while Jason goes to the junkyard to find a part that Billy accidentally beamed over with old Zord wreckage. Really? Dumping your Ranger junk at the junkyard is probably not the best idea, guys. Anyway, Jason finds it just as he's attacked by cogs, so Billy beams it out and begins working on it.
There is a very boring fight where the rangers call Zords and fight a giant Mondo with the sword and yada yada yada. They win. Mondo explodes. Machina reassures Sprocket that it's happened to Mondo before and he'll be fine. Elsewhere on the moon, Rita and Zedd show up in an RV to get Rito and Goldar.
Back at the Youth Center, the lady tells Bulk and Skull the calculations were off. The Burble Baby is actually middle aged and has lived in Angel Grove for years. It's Ernie! He is now the proud owner of a lifetime supply of baby food. He decides he should make baby food smoothies. EW.
Rocky apologizes to everybody for being headstrong and Jason reassures him they are friends. How Jason knew Rocky's freak out was over him, we're not sure. There had to have been an off screen "talk". Rocky needs to stop apologizing because it's not his fault and he clearly doesn't believe what he's saying anyway, but everybody takes him at face value and moves on. Way to be bad friends, guys!
2 fish. It could have used more Rocky/Jason, though!
Fic we want: More Rocky/Jason. It needs to exist, yo.
Also, Rocky calling Aisha and being all "AISHA, FIX MY LIFE"

Episode 188 - A Golden Homecoming
Previously on Power Rangers - NO, SERIOUSLY, WHAT WAS THAT SHIT?
Seriously, the two of us are totally conflicted about this episode. On the one hand, yay Jason! On the other hand - NO SERIOUSLY, WHY IS IT NOT BILLY?
Anyway, the episode opens with Tommy off somewhere without his powers to go get the new candidate for Gold Ranger. It's Jason, in a trenchcoat! We're guessing that Jason stole the coat from his boss at Torchwood. The other Rangers can't track them because that will alert King Mondo, but somehow they'll still know exactly when they can teleport? Whatever, the fish are strong with this one.
And it doesn't matter anyway, because Tommy and Jason get attacked by Cogs, and we get one of the few unmorphed fight scenes of the season. Which, you know, is a thing that we approve of, but WHY IS EVERYTHING ABOUT TOMMY? On the bright side, we do get to see Tommy fall down when he tries to run, so that's pretty great.
Meanwhile, Goldar and Rito have dreams sent to them by Rita and Zedd, mocking them for cleaning house. Zedd returns Goldar's wings and sword, but only if they promise to never be nice again. It's GREAT. Then they antagonize Bulk and Skull, who quite frankly deserve it. I love them, but the slave!RitoandGoldar plot is REALLY AWFUL. Goldar and Rito head off to wherever it is that the dream told them to go, and Bulk and Skull chase after them in Lt. Stone's car.
Back at the Power Chamber, everyone is all "Jason!" Not that most of them have even really met them before. And you know, I really want fic about this episode. I want Tommy's phone call to Jason being all "Come bemy boyfriend a Ranger again" and I want Jason and Billy to talk about whether Billy is ok with Jason having the power, and basically I want the emotional consequences of all of this and how it changes friendships.
The other Rangers go and fight some monster while the power is transferred to Jason, and then newly!Rangered Jason goes to help them, but the monsters are too strong. Billy pulls them back before they can summon zords with "sorry, monsters too powerful. LET ME BE USEFUL, OK?"
Then there's some nonsense from Trey about how there are super Zeo Gems that will turn into new Zords, and that fits with nothing we know about the Zeo Crystal, but since that's one of the least faily things about this episode, I'm just going to ignore it. Trey leaves, and Jason waves his staff over the gems (and oh god, that sounds so wrong) and they turn into the Zords, and the five main Rangers go beat up four monsters in them. Except while it's pretty awesome that Kat and Tanya get to beat up a monster together, all the boys can do it on their own, and I just sit there being very grumpy about it.
Rito and Goldar get picked up by Rita and Zedd, and the family is reunited. Awwww. Which is too bad for Goldar, because he's leaving just as Jason's coming back, and you know our feelings about Goldar/Jason. (Hint: It is bad and wrong but also awesome.)
At the youth center, Tommy is all "YES, MY BOYFRIEND IS BACK" and Jason is all "Leaving to join Torchwood was hard, but at least I knew the Rangers were in good hands, and by the way? Totally don't want to be leader again." And then they make out. Well, that would be how I would end it anyway.
Fish: FIVE. WHAT IS THIS NONSENSE ABOUT NO BILLY?
Fic we want: Seriously, emotional consequences of Jason coming back. Where is the conversation between Jason and Billy? Because frankly, that is WAY more important than the fact that Tommy clearly wants to make out with him.
