Episode 285 - Silence is Golden

The episode begins with Andros and TJ crossing the Blue Psycho off the big board. I love big boards! They're so much fun. Andros is worried that this is the calm before the storm or something. Back on Earth, Cassie is shopping. This just makes me really want to write the fic where Kim takes all the Pink Rangers shopping. Poor Cassie has allergies, which is sad. :(

Meanwhile, the Psychos are memorizing the Rangers' voices. Astronema tells them not to kill the Rangers, but to capture them instead, no matter how much energy it takes. Ecliptor tells her that its risky, but she's sure that her awesomeness will carry through. I approve!

Seriously, if Astronema would just carry out her own plans instead of delegating, she'd have conquered Earth already.

The Psychos go down to Earth and turn into humans and they start scanning around Angel Grove, listening for the Rangers' voices. Psycho Red is pretty hot. WE ARE SO OLD. This is the days before cell phones, so Ashley is using a pay phone. She's talking about getting a gift for her dad. Psycho Yellow immediately goes after Ashley, but instead gets the woman in the phone booth after her. I am really not sure how they got there after Ashley had left the booth. They seemed to be moving fairly quickly. Ashley hears the woman scream, and then overhears the Psychos explain about the voices. Ashley heads back to the Megaship, leaving Cassie behind, and they have to figure out how to contact Cassie.

If they could text, this would not be an issue. Instead, we get a pager. Awww, pagers. I seriously feel so old. SO OLD.

Apparently Cassie can't talk, can't use her communicator, and can't morph. Okay, so now I have questions. How do they usually get back to the ship? I'm guessing it's not teleporters. Do they morph and take the Galaxy Gliders? RIDICULOUS. Why can't she go morph in a corner and instantly get out of there? THEY CAN USUALLY DO THAT.

So Cassie is put into situations where she has to talk. She avoids thanking a guy for getting her bags when she forgets them, and she gives a cranky old guy a flower when he demands an apology for her bumping into him. But then she sees a baby carriage nearly get knocked down some stairs so she screams. The baby is saved, but the Psychos are being creepy and corner Cassie.

Then a poorly disguised Zhane clown shows up. What the fuck. He rounds the corner and then suddenly the Psychos hear Cassie's voice and they chase after it. Cassie runs into the rest of the Rangers, and they morph and fight the Psychos and SERIOUSLY, I WOULD LIKE AN EXPLANATION. I'm guessing recordings of Cassie's voice taped from somewhere?

The three psychos turn into even more monstrous forms, because apparently this ridiculousness is what they actually look like, and THERE IS NOT ENOUGH ALCOHOL IN THE WORLD. Then the Psychos grow and I am not giving a shit at this point. The three Psychos are beating up the Megazord so Zhane shows up with another toy.

They thought they'd destroyed the Psychos, but apparently not. Instead, the Psychos try to drag them into a vortex or something. The Rangers are all "We need to abandon ship!" but Andros is pulling a Tommy and is all "WE DO NOT ABANDON OUR ZORDS." Luckily, Adam has clearly warned Carlos about this, because Carlos hits Andros and makes him leave. They escape just as the MegaVoyager gets dragged... somewhere.

Dark Spectre whines to Astronema about his missing powers, and she promises that she's looking into it. Also, Astronema of Borg has hidden the Megazord somewhere, and she starts to tell the Psychos her grand plan.

Episode 284 - Five of a Kind

So we open with Dark Spectre being all "Astronema, go be HBIC and attack Earth." That is totally the best way to start an episode.

The Rangers break out the awesome chess set again, and take off the Psycho Pink. Then TJ is all "WAIT. I HAVE FIGURED IT OUT." He realizes that if they keep fighting same colors, they are screwed. Just mix up the colors! Because TJ is brilliant and proving how he is an awesome blue, and doing the strategy thing. GO TJ. This is why he was such an awesome Red Ranger.

So an alarm goes off and they head to fight the Psycho Rangers, with their plan to switch colors on them. Unfortunately, that doesn't stop the Psychos from still going after their counterparts, and soon the battle goes back to color vs color. Then Zhane shows up, late as always. Is this a sixth ranger thing or something?

Psycho Blue scores a lucky hit on TJ, who goes down hard, and it's only Zhane showing up at the last minute that prevents him from getting his head chopped off.

Luckily for TJ, Dark Spectre is all "SOMEONE IS DRAINING MY POWERS NOW" so Astronema has to pull the Psychos back.

TJ wakes up in the med lab, and damn, nice arms. TJ is very sad that his plan didn't work, but everyone is like "YOU STAY IN THE MED LAB. YOU ARE HURT." Also, Cassie looks very worried about him, hovering over his bed, and I ship them so hard.

The Psychos are arguing about why they got pulled back, and they're planning on going after the Rangers with or without Astronema. She is so pleased by this.

CASSIE BRINGS TJ BREAKFAST IN BED AND THERE IS A FLOWER. SHIP THEM SHIP THEM SHIP THEM. ALL THE HURT/COMFORT. ALL OF IT.

Except TJ isn't in bed, he's busy watching the battle to figure out new strategies. Except on the recording, the color suddenly goes out, and TJ comes up with ANOTHER new plan, because he is brilliant. He spraypaints all the pieces on the chess board blue, so they won't know their true colors.

OH MY GOD HE HAS NICE ARMS. Those jackets hide them. BUT DAMN, NICE ARMS.

So all the Rangers go down disguised as blue rangers, and I wonder how they managed to make all their costumes blue. And it's not like they disguise the voices. And with color theory and all, I wonder if the others are uncomfortable wearing blue. And like, how did the girls ditch the skirts? SO MANY QUESTIONS.

Yellow Psycho is like "whatever, I'm not even trying. I'll wait until they're done."

Then Silver Psycho appears or something, and he attacks the Rangers, and the Psychos are SO ANNOYED with that. So they attack Psycho Silver, and then Psycho Blue blasts Psychos Red and Black in the back.

Psycho Silver is revealed as Zhane, and the five blue rangers all assemble and Zhane and TJ blast Psycho Blue. Why is Zhane getting to be all awesome? This is TJ's moment of glory! So Psycho Blue gets to grow and the toys show up to battle. And then it's snowing or something? Are they still in California? Why so cold?

(SERIOUSLY, WHY SO COLD. I hate cold.) (QR is mocking me, she loves the cold. She's also wrong.)

Apparently Psycho Blue is trying to freeze them, so they just turn up the heat and the ice melts off the zord, and could I get that system, because SO COLD. I am going to freeze when I go home to NY for two weeks.

So they destroy blue and call Zhane a Psycho and Astronema is like "pfft, one is enough to destroy the Rangers." Astronema threatens the Psychos and is all "Here is the plan" and they are so terrified of her. So great.

The Rangers are all prepping for battle and doing something technical. Whatever it is, it should be awesome.

Andros is busy having a sad about Karone. Look, she's all Of Borg at the moment. And he's being emo. If QR was doing this recap, she'd be a lot more sympathetic. But I am not.

Fish: 2! TJ has a plan! He is great!

Fic we want: TJ is so badass. TJ/Cassie! Lasting effects of wearing the wrong color!

Episode 282 - Carlos on Call

Psycho Rangers! Epic storyline is epic, yes?

So, previously: Astronema is HBIC with the best plans ever, the Psycho Rangers are terrifying and awesome and kicked the Rangers' butts, and palm pilots are the height of technology or something.

We start off at the Surf Spot, where Carlos and his very nice arms are playing video games. A tiny child watches him. Her mom says hi to Carlos, and apparently she was one of Carlos's teacher. Carlos hangs out with the tiny child while the mom goes to get soda, and she (Silvy) totally creams him in videogames.

Carlos's communicator goes off, and he can't find a place to answer it, so for SOME INSANE REASON he goes into a photobooth and morphs THERE and even though there was NO MONEY IN THE BOOTH, it takes a picture anyway.

SO MANY POINTS for a Ranger finally having a hard time finding a place to morph. SO MANY POINTS.

So apparently the camera went off EXACTLY while Carlos was morphing, and Silvy takes the photos. DUN DUN DUN.

The Rangers battle some monster, and then Andros shoots it and it runs away. Astronema of Borg watches the battle and it turns out that the monster was busy just scanning the Rangers for weaknesses. Astronema lectures the Psychos for underestimating the Rangers strength, but Psycho Yellow is all "nope, you underestimate us."

Carlos gets email from someone saying they know he's the Black Ranger. He assumes its from the Psycho, which is a pretty good guess. Silvy shows up there and is all adorably "What's up? You're slow. I totally know who you are." Then she shows him the picture and Carlos is all FML.

She makes him buy her a ton of shit, and I want her to grow up to be a Power Ranger SO BADLY. She also makes him play a ton of stuff with her. Then she hands him a pager and is all "You'll do what I tell you" and threatens to tell everyone in the park.

Up on the Megaship, everyone is all "you need to put your foot down" but... she has blackmail material. So he goes with her to the carnival. It's a good thing Carlos is honorable and doesn't just STEAL THE PHOTOS BACK. If this took place a few years later, nobody would ever believe her due to photoshop.

She tells him she wants a moon rock, which SHOULDN'T BE THAT HARD FOR YOU, CARLOS, but instead he throws a complete hissy fit. I'm definitely not saying blackmail is right, but this is within your power and it would make her stop and she's 10.

Ashley tells Carlos that there's something he should know, and takes him to see some doctor, who tells them all about Silvy's family, where apparently she had an older brother who DIED, and they ACTUALLY SAY DIED ON POWER RANGERS. WHAT. A CHILD. TWELVE YEARS OLD. THEY SAY A CHILD DIED. Apparently Silvy and her brother wanted to be astronauts, and they were going to get a moon rock. Carlos flips out and immediately goes to get a moon rock, and Silvy pages them because a monster has shown up.

YOU GUYS, THIS SHOW USED DIED. I DON'T EVEN KNOW. POWER RANGERS, FOR REAL. Also, Silvy is the smartest, and I still want her to be a Power Ranger.

The Rangers all show up and fight the monster and it grows so they shoot it some more. That's pretty great. Then they get the other Zords to come fight and blow up the monster.

Astronema is annoyed because the Psychos are going after the Rangers, and she doesn't want them to destroy the Rangers until SHE wants them to. But Psycho Red grabs Silvy and there's a pretty great fight scene of Rangers vs Psycho Red. (Silvy watches from behind the tree, and is pretty great). Psycho Red is about to kill Andros, but Psycho Black shows up to attack Psycho Red because he wants to be the leader. Good thing too.

Astronema is pissed at the Psychos for letting their dick swinging contest get in the way of her plan. Her new plan is to have them attack one Ranger at a time, with pink going first.

Carlos walks Silvy home, and she gives him the photos back. She apologies, and is a very smart child. They agree to be friends (and one day she asks him for advice when she's the black ranger) and he gives her a moon rock. THEN he gives her a ride in space. CUTEST EVER.

HOW DOES SHE BREATHE IN SPACE, WHAT.

Silvy says she doesn't want to be an astronaut anymore, she wants to be a Power Ranger. I APPROVE, TINY CHILD.

Fish: 3. So seriously, how does she breathe in space? And why did the photobooth go off with no money in it?

Fic we want: can we get an entire episode of Carlos just holding babies and hugging tiny children or something?

Episode 281 - Rangers Gone Psycho

Today on Power Rangers,

So we start off with a battle. There is screaming. And a weird owl monster thing. It's... not pretty. Nor is it exciting. Nor does it bode well for this episode. They win, of course.

Back on the ship, Andros has a sad. He can't stop staring at his locket. Because he misses his sister. Again. He flash backs to talking to her about missing her, and getting to know her, and how they have all the time in the world. Except they don't because she's evil again. Poor Andros. Ashley manages to talk him into taking a break back on Earth. Adelle gives them heaps of food, but Carlos is awesome and remembers to say "thank you".

They overhear a girl playing with her little electronic organizer. It sounds just like the communicators and all I could think was how super awesome it was at the time, and how super clunky and huge it looks compared to today's tech. Then they get distracted by a news report. There was an attack at a building and the news reporter sees the rangers, and asks them what happened. Except it's not the rangers! They attack the reporter.

The real rangers end up on the scene and there is an epic battle of ranger vs ranger. This is super awesome! The Psycho Rangers are GOOD. It is one amazing battle. They end up wearing really cool armour before introducing themselves. Faster, stronger, BETTER. And EVIL. It's super intense.

Zhane does not have a psycho ranger equivalent, though, and rushes in just in time to save them. The Psycho Rangers vanish, but not before taking some energy from the real rangers. Astronema is sure this is the only way to beat the real rangers. This is actually a really good plan of hers.

The real rangers can't figure out what's going on. They don't know who the psycho rangers are, where they came from, how to find them. They don't know how to beat them. And it's really clearly bothering them.

The Psycho Rangers are taken in by the sound of the little address storage device. They keep attacking humans to no avail. The real rangers can't figure out why random people are being attacked. Luckily Zhane is still on Earth. Or not so luckily, because the Psycho Rangers find him and capture him. Oh Zhane, you're so pretty when you're tied up.

They've taken him to the old library (apparently there is a new one?) and it's a total disaster. Seriously. Wouldn't they have moved all that stuff to the new library? Anyway, Zhane is still tied up and is very pretty. The real rangers can't get through a force field, though, and aren't allowed to morph. So Andros comes up with a plan, because he has to get his boyfriend back. He uses a remote controlled car to distract them and they fall for it (running like I don't even know what... who the heck pulls their knees up to their chest while running?). The rangers get in and rush to Zhane. Who is delightfully tied up! There should be more Zhane and bondage in this show.

There is a big battle between the rangers and the psycho rangers, because of course they knew the rangers were there. They're evil, not stupid! Though I can see how it would be easy to make that mistake in this show...

The battle is once again epic but the psycho's get called back before they can completely destroy the rangers. But not before there is MAJOR damage to the rangers. Zhane escapes just in time to SEE THEM FALL. Like, hardcore fall. So he rushes to Andros (boyfriends!) and helps them back to the ship.

Astronema has the BEST PLAN EVER. She is going to use the psycho rangers to drain the power from Dark Spectre while they simultaneously destroy the power rangers. This will leave her free to be in charge of everything. SHE IS FREAKING BRILLIANT. I LOVE HER SO MUCH IT'S AMAZING.

Episode 209 - Shadow Rangers

This episode started off SO WELL. And then it turned into... well, Turbo. *sob*

So, Justin is helping Tommy work on his car. Justin's shoelace gets caught on the gas peddle. The car's engine blows. Tommy still insists that this isn't Justin's fault. EXCEPT IT TOTALLY IS. Oh, and we find out that someone has been stealing stuff from the garage, so Justin builds a homing beacon that he'll put on something in the hope that it's stolen and will lead them to the thief.

Divatox has a new monster, the Chromite. Chromite appears to be marrying Elgar. Congratulations, may you two live happily ever after SOMEWHERE FAR AWAY. Divatox is going to send the Chromite down to leave a detonator in the construction site.

Adam and Tanya are off on a date walking together (after engaging in some practice to better get their Zords together) when Kat joins them. They promptly get attacked by the Chromite, who steals their morphing energy and creates shadow versions of them! We're actually really excited, because HEY, EVIL RANGERS. It's a thing that we like! The unmorphed fight against themselves is seriously great! Adam gets beaten up a lot! *approves so hard* Of course, then they get captured and thrown in a cave.

Then Justin and Tommy get attacked. Tommy has seen this before, and tries to stop Justin from morphing, but that doesn't work, and Justin gets his power stolen and he's kidnapped. There is a nice fight where fake!Kat and Adam beat up Tommy. I approve.

Now that he's all alone, Tommy goes back to the Power Chamber to get Dimitria's help. Unfortunately, since she's from the planet Inquirus, she can only inquire about things, so she answers all questions in the form of a question. At least she'd be good on jeopardy. BUT SERIOUSLY, she is so annoying. If they wanted to frame it instead as a "you are adults now and need to learn to figure things out yourself" I might not be as annoyed. But really, part of the reason they've always had a mentor/support staff is so that they don't need to do everything themselves, because sometimes they have to be out there fighting while someone else DOES THE IMPORTANT RESEARCH. Instead, Tommy is left to be the science guy (and this is where I start laughing hysterically and wondering if this is what leads to him faking his doctorate) and he discovers that the shadow rangers are made out of light, so if he just makes it dark, everything will be okay.

He fights the shadows and even though it's daylight out he manages to destroy them all. I call bullshit.

Justin has activated the homing beacon, so Tommy goes and rescues everyone else. Then they morph and fight the chromite and summon zords, and wow, this episode sucks.

Turns out that monkey!Bulk and Skull are the thieves. They're now living in the youth center, which is under new management. Ernie's foreign service unit has recalled him (he's going to build a bridge in the amazon or something) and now Lt. Stone is running things. (And hey, isn't anyone WORRIED about Bulk and Skull being missing? WORST FRIENDS EVER.)

So in the last few episodes, we've lost Billy, Jason, Rocky, Zordon, Alpha, human!Bulk and Skull, and Ernie. WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO US, SHOW?

Fish: 5. EVERYTHING IS BAD AND WRONG.

Episode 112- Blue Ranger Gone Bad

This episode is fishy and weird and really poorly written and just all around bad but I DON'T CARE! I love it so very very much. It's horrible, yet it's one of my favourites. And did you know it will be airing on Nick? When all the other 700 episodes air? Because Haim Saban bought back Power Rangers? Because it totally will be. And I'll love it on network tv again. :D

So we start out with the rangers in art class, all except Rocky and Aisha whom we are assuming are sequestered somewhere else making out. Art class is being taught by somebody who is not Principal Caplan OR Ms. Applebee! Angel Grove High must have had room in the budget to hire a third teacher. Billy has made a hologram, though we're not sure how that's art. Tommy has made what looks like the sawed off head of a mannequin. Another girl in the class has made a statue of Billy. She watches him the entire class. She flirts badly with him. She makes googly eyes and giggles a lot. She molds him out of clay. She's... creepy, which is about the nicest thing I can say about Violet.

Anywho, Kim talks Billy into asking her out on a date, in what we can only assume is her desire to bond with somebody over creepy significant others, and they all head off to the Juice Bar. They are attacked along the way by AWESOME POSING PUTTIES! Seriously, the putties don't get more awesome than this. *will miss the Z putties* In the fight, everybody is very very pretty (though I don't think so with Tommy, but TSB does, so he gets included here too). Goldar uses tentacle-like vines to ensnare Billy and teleport him to the Alternate Dimension Room of Fog Machines, where Goldar is disappointed Billy is not Jason, but figures he'll have to do. They have stolen Violet's statue and made and Evil!Billy out of it. Billy pulls the first male 'scream for Tommy' and I'm saddened momentarily. Evil!Billy glares at Good!Billy and is very hot, which cheers me right back up again. Good!Billy refuses to believe his friends won't notice that he's suddenly turned evil and is very hot while being deliberately obtuse. Oh Billy, honey, you have bad friends. They don't notice spells, you can bet they won't notice an evil clone.

Evil!Billy is very attractive while being sent to the park to rejoin his friends. He's bad at pretending to be Good!Billy, but he's still awesome. He's also apparently smarter than Good!Billy because he refuses to ask Violet out on a date, right to the point of ignoring her when she's talking to him at the Juice Bar. He lifts weights a lot and refuses to study math, but does manage to use the hottest Billy!speak to talk the others out of their communicators and then steals their morphers. He's also very pretty while being evil.

Tommy somehow was the smart one here and kept his communicator, sneaking away to contact Zordon about the "upgrades" Billy will be doing. They decide something isn't right and check into Billy.

The gang get attacked by West Side Story putties and I squee with delight! Zordon has managed to teleport Good!Billy to the park and he's now face to face with Evil!Billy. The others, having discovered their morphers were taken, are now trying to both get them back AND figure out which Billy is their Billy. It's made even harder when Billy morphs and... Evil!Billy morphs with him? What? That... makes no sense. But I don't care because Two Billys! Kim uses her brain and asks about the hologram. Only Good!Billy knows what it is, and they morph and quickly do away with Evil!Billy. We know there is some fic where they rescue the wrong Billy, but we feel there should be MORE. Or at least linked to older fic. Ahem.

Anyway, Zedd and Rita fight over Zedd's staff (gigglesnort) and then make a monster out of Tommy's "art" project. The rangers call zords, they form the megazord, they fight for a minute, Tommy has dialogue, and then they pull out the thundersabre and the fight is over.

Back in art class, Billy apologizes to Violet, who says "It's okay! I'm sure there was a good reason." instead of "You really hurt my feelings, but thanks for apologizing." which would have been far more healthy. Anyway. He asks her out to the movies and she nearly falls over from the excitement.

The art teacher asks them to show their projects. Kim has made a painting of her friends. It's kind of cute. Bulk and Skull (who has drool-worthy arms and he should really show them off more often) have gotten Violet to do their project for them and she's turned Billy into the Gold Ranger. Foreshadowing maybe? ;) Billy is a little creeped out by this, rightly so, but not enough to cancel the date he's already uncomfortable about.

List time!
2.5 fish. I love it too much to give it more.

Billy speak- Evil!Billy speak today "By redefining the geographical servofrequency range, we'll have less high end interference."

Fic we want: Today, we give YOU fic! Today is the most AWESOME DAY EVER OMG HAPPY DAY and both and I have posted fic request posts. Head on over and ask for anything you'd like!

Episode 106- Return of the Green Ranger Part 3

Today on Power Rangers, history STILL doesn't work that way!

This episode is all about Tommy's self esteem. He spends the whole thing beating himself up. Literally.

Anyway, we start off with Good!Tommy being all weak and fuzzy. His vision is blurry, he stumbles around, and at one point he falls down some steps. Meanwhile, Rita and Zedd are arguing about who's idea it was to send the rangers to the past.

Back in 17something, in Angel Grove That Should Not Exist, all the supposedly-British redcoats have very distinct Australian accents. They are looking for the witches and end up finding the really big rats instead. Everybody flees in terror.

Good!Tommy must morph and go fight Evil!Tommy. So they fight again. In their zords. DragonZord, in coming out of the water, manages to soak the entire warehouse district... and it's actually got people working in it! Alas, nothing gets destroyed.

Good!Tommy has to go back in time to get the other rangers, so he steals the wand from the freaky wizard guy and transports himself back. The other rangers want to stop the rat monster things, but he says there is no time and they have to go stop Evil!Tommy instead. So... they all just go. It's TIME TRAVEL, Dude. You can stop the rats and go back to your own time the exact second you LEFT IT. As in, the FUTURE can wait while you beat up some rats. But no. They all go back and stop Evil!Tommy.

So eventually Good!Tommy manages to break the spell on Evil!Tommy. And BUZWHA????? Under a spell? Since when? How? He's a clone of ONLY THE EVIL PARTS OF TOMMY. If that's a spell, his entire BEING is a spell. But whatever. So now Evil!Tommy is Good!Green!Tommy. Good!White!Tommy tries to get the rangers to stop fighting the DragonZord and Good!Green!Tommy manages to deactivate him just in time.

Tommy Squared go back in time by themselves and beat up the rats. White Ranger Tommy comes back to the present but leaves Green Ranger Tommy in the past... where they somehow accept him into their town instead of burning him at the stake.

Back in Present Day Might-Potentially-Exist Angel Grove, the rangers are trying to cheer Adam up because he's sad they had to leave Marissa behind (he invited her to join them but she refused, and then Rocky literally DRAGGED him away). A girl nearby drops all her books and Adam helps her pick them up, only to come face to face with a present day Marissa. Show? Genetics doesn't work like that.

The only good part of the whole episode? Not-Really-There 17something Angel Grove Redcoat Skull says Green Ranger Tommy can join his... "regiment". Just like that. His [long pause] regiment. Oh show. *smishes it so so much*

List time!
5 fish. Just... no.

Other things we keep track of? Nada. Zip. Zilch.

Fic we really want? Ms. Applebee telling the class about the legend of the Giant Rats that terrorized the Angel Grove that really oughtn't exist.

Episode 105- Return of the Green Ranger - Part 2

Today, on the Tommy show, we continue to butcher history!

We open in 1760ish Angel Grove, where a very Australian girl (named Marissa) is hiding the Rangers in a wheelhouse. She is undisturbed by their clothes, their speech, and the fact that they claim to be from 200+ years in the future. (They keep claiming it is only 200 years in the past, but that doesn't work, unless Angel Grove was another British protectorate and not part of America. And, you know, at that point in time California was Spanish. Of course, the entire timeline is completely screwed up, so I don't know why it's bothering me as much as it is. But really, history doesn't work like that.)

The Rangers attempt to explain things to Marissa (including Kimberly and Aisha trying to explain the mall to her) and Billy gives her an actual explanation. We don't really get to see her reaction, because we cut back to the present, where good!Tommy is standing around glaring at evil!Tommy. We are rooting for evil!Tommy. (I'm sure you're surprised by this.) Tommy claims that his dark side vanished, and we just have to laugh. (Also, I'm a big supporter of Ellen Brand's Tommy has MPD theory, so I love this episode more than is probably healthy.)

In the cutest scene of the episode, Bulk and Skull are sleeping on the grass, cuddling together. When they wake up, Bulk immediately remembers the wizard and starts asking Skull about it. Skull is confused, and asks Bulk if he ate beans for lunch, because he always has weird dreams after eating beans. Oh, BOYS. *pets them*

Zordon has finally noticed that something is going on. We nearly fall off the couch in surprise.

And now for the highlight of the episode - TOMMY VS TOMMY. They morph (good!Tommy calls it out, and evil!Tommy is all "I was hoping you'd say that") and then they fight. For some reason there are sparks between them (literally) whenever they touch. (We assume it's the contact of so many fish, they cause sparks) You guys, we missed the shield of cheap bling. It is so nice to see it again. The wizard guy is all "mwahaha, Tommy, I'm surprised you're still fighting" and good!Tommy says something about the human spirit, but it's been like 30 seconds, we don't know why he's so pleased with himself. Still, Tommy ends up falling to his knees (that happens to him a lot) and he gets his powers drained (... that also happens to him a lot) and the wizard sends evil!Tommy off to annoy Zordon, while he goes back in time to annoy the other Rangers.

Back in 17whatever, Kimberly is claiming that Tommy will save them, and I'm saved from my disgust by the appearance of the chief redcoat - someone who appears to be Skull's ancestor! Aww, Skull! Kimberly is all confused. They try to explain things to ancestor!Skull, but he isn't listening and tries to arrest them. Oh, and for some reason, they can't call Zordon on their communicators. The fish must be jamming them. (Why they aren't just trying to walk to the Command Center we.... really don't know.)

At the Command Center, evil!Tommy is there to taunt Zordon in some very familiar footage. Except this time he doesn't short circuit Zordon. Clearly, a pale imitation of the original. But he does tell Zordon that wherever the Rangers are, history is repeating itself. Somehow, Zordon deduces that this means they've been sent back through time and now they have to work backwards and scan for their genetic markers, and look, I'm not making this up, I only report it.

On the moon, Rita and Zedd are dancing to celebrate! They are so adorable, I love them so much. Zedd's big plan for once they've officially destroyed the Rangers? He and Rita should have a baby! There is much squealing from us, but Rita is disgusted, and runs away to make Finster make a new potion to make Zedd get over that idea. Finster is all "ooh, a baby!" but he starts trying to do what Rita tells him. Zedd wants the baby to have Rita's looks and his brains, but sadly the eventual spawn will be the other way around.

In 17whatever, Adam grabs Marissa and drags her with them, as they run away. She clearly only believed them because the power of Adam's hotness compelled her to. To be fair, we can understand why. They start running through town, and Rocky jumps over a sheep. AMAZING. Marissa ends up leading them to her uncle's carriage that will carry them to safety (good thing Adam is so pretty, although how she summoned her uncle we.... really don't know.) and it turns out her uncle is Bulk's ancestor! Aww, Bulk! On Bulk's farm, Adam is making googly eyes at Marissa, while Rocky and Aisha are by the barn wall. Aisha tells Rocky his foot is tickling her, and it turns out that it isn't his foot (although, Rocky and Aisha playing footsie? yesplease.) but some rats. Aisha screams. (Wouldn't you?)

Then the wizard guy shows up, and turns the rats into rat monsters. The Rangers try to morph, but they can't, because they're 200 years before they met Zordon. WHAT. Look, they shouldn't have LOST their morphers just because they went into the past. It's also 200 years before they got those clothes - should they be wearing them? Also, the morphers tap into a morphin grid that is STILL THERE, so they should have been able to tap in anyway.

Back in the present, evil!Tommy has out his dragon dagger, and he is summoning the dragonzord. We are pleased. On the moon, Zedd has an evil laugh.

To be continued.

Fish: 4.5 (We needed a break from the 5 fish.)

Other things we usually keep track of: None!

Fic people should write us: I really would read the wacky adventures of time traveling Rangers. But I did just get fic where Kimberly tries to save Abraham Lincoln for my birthday, so you should all go read that.

Episode 93 - Lights, Camera, Action

I've got a stomach virus or something, so I am at home with a lot of soup, but that doesn't stop me from recapping this completely ridiculous episode. There are so many questions that can only be answered by saying that the fish did it. Although I still encourage people to write fic.

So, the episode opens with Aisha giving a report on tv. I still want to know what class it is, since I'm assuming it's the same class that Adam did his report on kaleidoscopes. But besides pondering what class it is, we're both instantly struck with the need to all caps at each other about how OLD we are, because Aisha pulls out a VHS tape to show some footage about TV. Seriously, we are SO OLD.

Aisha finishes up her report, and Ms. Applebee asks the class if they know who the father of television is, and Bulk answers Captain Kangaroo. Seriously? Apparently Captain Kangaroo ended in 1993, but... would Bulk and Skull really have been watching? I'm 25 and I barely know who Captain Kangaroo is. Ms. Applebee basically calls Bulk an idiot, and Adam correctly answers the question.

This somehow leads into Ms. Applebee telling them about their homework - the Power Rangers are going to be on TV that night on a nationwide broadcast (Angel Grove is so its own country) promoting education, since they are apparently worldwide ambassadors of education. Everyone in class needs to watch the broadcast and then write a report on it. I have a few suggestions on things they could talk about - the need for some new teachers at Angel Grove High and replacing the curriculum with something that accurately reflects a high school being pretty high up there on the list.

But I keep getting distracted by the actual logistics of this. How was this arranged? Did the newsguy catch them after one of their fights and ask if they would be willing to be on TV? Did they just teleport into the studio and declare themselves proponents of education and say they wanted to be on primetime? Was there a giant press conference where the United Nations declared them worldwide ambassadors of education? These are the things that I think about! Also, I desperately want to read the Rangers' reports about themselves. I'm sure that Tommy's is all about how great the White Ranger is.

Out in the hall, Adam is all freaking out because he doesn't like cameras. He really doesn't want to be on tv! Rocky tries to tell him it will be okay, possibly because he's hoping to make a video of his own later. Billy gets all touchy feely with Adam, and they point out they'll still have their masks on (possibly in the video that Adam and Rocky make also)

Anyway, Zedd is all "Hmm, the Power Brats will be on TV? I should take advantage of this by kidnapping them and replacing them with Evil!Rangers who will spread my message of hate!" That is... actually not a bad plan! Although I'm fairly sure if Zedd showed up at a TV station and demanded that they hold a press conference, they would let him.

So, sometime before the broadcast the Rangers are wandering along the beach when Goldar and some putties show up. Adam is all "crap, Goldar!" because he is clearly terrified that Goldar will take him to Scorpina (or, you know, steal his self-esteem.) So they morph, and there's a fight, and the Rangers win, and Zedd is all "Well, Goldar screwed up, so no evil twins today!" Instead, he makes a camera monster.

At the Harvey Garvey show (yes, that is actually the name) the host is wearing the most ridiculously early 90s outfit, words will not do it justice. Also, the guy is pretty sleazy. The audience is all "We want the Power Rangers!" and I'm just hoping a riot doesn't break out. So the Power Rangers all come out, and there's a lot of martial arts and some ridiculous pyrotechnics, and then the host goes straight to commercial. Oh, and Bulk and Skull have a plan that will try and expose the Rangers identities on live television. This will obviously fail, and Bulk will get hit in the head a lot, and I'm not going to even bother to mention it again.

Harvey Garvey asks the Rangers if education has helped them. The answer is clearly not, since they go to Angel Grove. Also, the guy is making it sound like they're already out of school (of course, nobody suspects that it's a bunch of high school kids) and the Rangers encourage this, talking about how all of the monsters have a weakness, and they have to use their heads to figure it out. I'm sure that Tommy has a very hard head.

Also, Rocky is pretty much sitting on Adam and Aisha, and this is very important.

Anyway, Kimberly and Billy talk about the Pudgy Pig and we're all happy to see the old footage. Pudgy Pig is awesome!

The next question has absolutely nothing to do with education, and instead Harvey Garvey asks about how they do all those kicks, so Aisha and Rocky give him an impromptu lesson. (Points for involving Aisha in this, since they would usually do Tommy and Adam.) Of course, Harvey Garvey falls.

The next question is directed at Tommy, asking what happened to the Green Ranger. Which brings me to another question - how DO they explain these things? Do people just assume that the Green Ranger died? But Tommy is saved from having to answer this, because Zordon has noticed that Zedd sent down a monster. Alpha initially doesn't want to contact the Rangers, since they are on TV, but saving the world is more important. Tommy answers his communicator on the air, and then the group teleports out, just as Bulk stumbles onto the set to try and pull off their helmets.

The only notable thing about the conversation in the Command Center is that Tommy says "lights, camera, we're morphin into action." What the fuck.

Anyway, there's a fight, Zords are summoned, you know the drill. It was pretty boring.

The next day, Ms. Applebee is asking students about the broadcast. One guy (who appears to have a mullet) says that since the Rangers think education is cool, he does too. If the Rangers all jumped off a bridge, I bet he would. Then Ms. Applebee asks Rocky what he thought, and Rocky smirks and says that the Rangers reached out and touched him. I'm sure that Adam did all night long. :D

Ms. Applebee says that they really touched her (although hopefully not in the same way) and that they touched people all over the world. Really, I thought this was only a nationwide broadcast? Okay. And apparently Zack, Trini and Jason were all watching, since they faxed the school to say how great it was. I'm surprised that Torchwood let them contact everyone, and also amazed that they didn't directly contact the other Rangers. I guess they are all sad they weren't invited.

Bulk and Skull show up late, expecting to be treated like stars since they crashed the broadcast. Instead, they get more detention.

Fish: FIVE. The fish clearly arranged everything

Covered in: Bulk gets hit by a bunch of stuff. Apparently we're backsliding.

Billy speak: If there was any, we were too distracted by the fish to notice.

Episode 72 - Green No More - Part 1

Hey, we're reaching the end of the Green Ranger era! Sadly, not of the Tommy era. But whatever. Today on Power Rangers - Tommy is emo, there are some hot bullies, and Zedd discovers kryptonite.

I actually remembered nothing about this episode, so it's all new for me. And amazingly it wasn't that bad!

We open with Tommy playing basketball. You can tell that he's emo, because he's having trouble making the shot. Kimberly shows up (her outfits are really cute this season), having asked Jason where Tommy was. I kind of love that Kimberly needed to ask Jason for this piece of information. They have a discussion about Tommy's powers, which are failing fast. Tommy's hair is ridiculous, and I feel the need to point that out.

Suddenly, a ghost!Tommy appears. He's from the future, and he tries to give a warning, that somehow involves communicators. Oh, Tommy. Meanwhile, Zedd is still obsessed with Tommy. He's putting Goldar's obsession with Jason to shame.

Meanwhile, at the school, Zack and Billy discuss Zack's cousin Curtis, who is being set up to be Zack's replacement moving to Angel Grove. He's basically Zack. Seriously, same character, same dancing, whatever. Apparently they only have one characterization available. They introduce Curtis to Ritchie, and the two decide to be boyfriends BFF. Tommy tells Zack and Billy about the guy who looked just like him, and I start all-capsing about how of course he looks like him, he IS HIM. Tommy, read more scifi. Or go to a movie. Or something.

Meanwhile, Bulk and Skull get beaten up by a new team of bullies. There are five of them, and they are all color coded for your convenience. Gee, I wonder what this is being set up for? (Also, the red one is hot, and we're sure we've seen the blue one before somewhere, but imdb is failing us.) The new bullies also threaten some kid name Stewart, and you would think that Billy would be more active in protesting this, but he just stands there and watches. Fail.

On the moon, Lord Zedd has apparently discovered Kryptonite. Seriously, it is a glowing green rock that drains people's powers. There is absolutely nothing else that it can be. Nothing. I just realized that this might make Tommy Superman and then my brain started to hurt.

After school, the Rangers (except for Trini, who is off visiting relatives) go to the beach. Zack and Jason show off their arms, while Kimberly and Billy look for shells. Just as Kimberly finds a new shell, the bullies appear, and suddenly we're in a Jets vs Sharks throwdown with the Rangers telling the new bullies about how they don't know the rules yet, and the bullies saying they make the rules. Then Lord Zedd teleports out the bullies, because he thinks they should work for him. They just stand there, and I'm not sure if they're under a spell or what.

The whole group teleports to the Command Center, and Zordon tells them that Lord Zedd has sent down a very powerful monster. Tommy insists on fighting with them, even though he can only hold up for one more fight. Now, if they were being smart they would save his powers for when they desperately need him, but Tommy insists on going now, because it has to be all about him. (My attempt to fanwank this is that he just wants it to be over, and he can't stand the constant not knowing if its going to be his last battle or not, but this may just be giving him too much credit. Then again, I've been in comics fandom for a while, so I've gotten really good at rationalizing.)

Zedd's shell monster thing has already grown, so we get the world's longest Zord summoning sequence. The monster beats them, and then goes back to Zedd, who is all annoyed because it hasn't completely destroyed Tommy yet. So the monster teleports Tommy to a field, and his powers immediately failed. Okay, so here's where we get into the fish - if they could do that before, why didn't they? (... To give the show some credit, I really appreciate the shots of JDF's ass. I am shallow, what?)

The other Rangers try to contact Zordon, but they can't. Zedd teleports them to a cave and imprisons them in a force field, and holds up the glowing chunk of Kryptonite, and tells them their powers won't work. He then debuts his Dark Rangers, who are in the most horrible versions of a costume I have ever seen in my entire life. I could make a better costume than that, and I can't sew. Zedd threatens to send out his Dark Rangers, and then we get a to be continued sign....

Fish! 3. Outside of the "5 evil people move to Angel Grove at once" and the "seriously, why couldn't they do any of this before?" it wasn't that high fish an episode. Especially for a Tommy Centric one.

Billy speak: "Y'know, it's quite possible that he appeared through a rift in the space time continuum."

Episode 64 - The Wanna-Be Ranger

This episode reminds me of why I love this show - it was completely ridiculous but totally awesome. And also it makes me want fanfic. Warning, there are spoilers for RPM in this recap, because Queenriley and I spent about half the episode discussing a ridiculous crossover. Also, this is our first Alpha centric episode! Oh, Alpha. We love you a whole lot, even if you are the whiniest robot ever. Also, please stop trying to be cool. This is only going to lead to Alpha Six, and I cannot deal with that.

Anyway, we open again with the new theme. We like the new theme. However, it just isn't the same without Rita yelling that she's free and it's time to conquer Earth. Plus, teenagers with attitude! We miss that! :(

Anyway, the actual episode starts with a basketball game. Frankly, we're amazed that they got Billy to play. We shouldn't be that surprised, since Billy has already proved he's awesome at basketball but we still think that Billy playing sports is out of character. Besides, he's supposed to sit on the sidelines and then get turned into a punk. Then their game is interrupted when a gorilla puts his hand on Kim's shoulder.

It is not a monster, but Zack in a monkey suit! Honestly, considering they live in Angel Grove and do get turned into monsters a lot, you would think that Zack would know better than to pull a stunt like that, but no. He gives some excuse about entertaining tiny children, which we assume is code for "spending time with Angela in the hopes that she'll think he's adorable and kiss him again." Zack, honey, we really don't think Angela is a furry. Jason tells him to get out of the suit and play some b-ball, and we aren't sure whether to laugh at the 90s slang, make fun of Jason's hair (I think you overdid it on the gel, Jason), make fun of Jason's ridiculously 90s jeans, or be pleased that Jason wants Zack to take off his clothes.

However, their communicators then go off, and the team goes to the Command Center, where Zordon tells them that he will temporarily de-ionize and be depowered. He also says that Alpha will be monitoring things and they should listen for his signal. We're not sure why this is such a big deal, I mean, Zordon Fails half the time anyway. He fades out and then the Rangers all leave, while Alpha starts to monitor things. He notices a little boy is lost in Angel Grove Park, and thinks he should call the Rangers. I love how apparently the Rangers rescue little children. I wonder if they also fetch cats out of trees. Someone should write that. However, he decides instead that it should be "Alpha Ranger to the rescue!" and he teleports out to go rescue the kid.

Alpha Ranger to the rescue is never going to stop being funny to me.

Anyway, to get on with the plot, Zedd decides to take advantage of the situation and create the Primator out of Zack's monkey suit. (I am still sad that monkey suit is not a tux. Zack in a tux would have been hot.)

At the park, Alpha finds the kid, who is named Dillon, and at that point Queenriley and I start plotting ridiculous insane crossover fic where the kid ends up actually being Dillon from RPM. He even looks (a little) like a baby Dillon! He's got the right color hair and eyes anyway! Look, we know that RPM technically takes place way in the future, but there is a way to make it work. And he tries to teach Alpha how to play soccer!

The Primator can apparently turn into any of the Rangers, and we're pleased that it's another evil twin episode. Especially because David Yost does a really good Evil Billy. How awesome would it have been if Billy had been the Evil Green Ranger? Seriously! Also, he's really hot when he's evil.

And evil!Billy says that Alpha is a naughty boy, and I die laughing.

Anyway, when evil!Billy sees himself reflected in Alpha's golden head, he turns back into the monster. But not before trying to make Alpha take him to the Command Center. Alpha activates his self destruct and baby!Dillon takes care of him. Oh, Alpha, you fail so hard.

The monster goes to the Youth Center and turns into Zack, where he tells Kimberly and Trini that Tommy got attacked by putties and is losing his powers and is failing a lot. They believe it, because it is the best excuse ever. Seriously, this monster totally gets Tommy. A++++ show! Also, Trini and Kimberly go right to the park without bothering to try and contact Tommy. They don't believe in communicators. Evil!Zack promises to look for Billy and Jason. I also love how they don't bother to question how Zack knows this - do they think he just left Tommy behind? Or what?

The girls get to the park, and when they don't see anything, they try and contact the guys, who are in Billy's garage with headphones on doing... something. We don't know. However, they can't hear their communicators. Apparently Jason can hear his over the sound of a motor bike but not with the earphones on. Also, I love how this is totally "listening for Alpha's signal". On the bright side, the girls get to fight putties and be awesome.

By the time they finish their fight, the guys have moved back to the Youth Center, and... well, that must have been a long fight. Otherwise, I've got nothing to explain how they moved so quickly. They looked pretty involved in Billy's lab. Just saying.

Kimberly and Trini start to yell at the guys for not being there. Can we say major secret identity fail? They just discuss it in the middle of the Youth Center! Oh, and then they use their communicators to try and contact Alpha. Still in the middle of the Youth Center. Of course, he doesn't answer because he is still lying in the middle of the park with baby!Dillon taking care of him. Longest self destruct sequence ever.

The Ranger teleport to the Command Center (luckily not from the middle of the Youth Center) and Zordon is back, just in time. He tells them about the new monster They figure out that it wasn't really Zack who told Kimberly and Trini to go to the park, and Kim apologizes.

The Rangers go to find the monster, which pretends to be Trini. They can't figure out which Yellow Ranger is the real one, so instead of having Kimberly Billy kiss her, Jason says that both of them should attack him. Because... I don't know. Fish. One Trini says that she can't because they're friends, and the other one attacks him. Gee, I wonder which one is the fake? (On the bright side, at least these evil Rangers have the right color gloves.)

Then the Primator turns into the Red Ranger, and Jason gets really pissed. He's all "No Red Ranger imitations allowed! Even Goldar knew that! Fake!Jason can totally shoot energy from his helmet, but regular Jason can't. At least we've never noticed that.

The Rangers retreat to the Command Center, and Zordon tells them to use a mirror to reveal the fake. Kimberly, of course, is carrying a giant mirror on her. I'm not really sure where she pulled it from because a) it's a fairly big mirror and b) she's morphed. Seriously, where was she carrying it?

Anyway, they teleport back to the fight, and for some reason only half of them are there, even though they all teleported in together. This will never be explained, just assume that they got hit by a fish. Somehow Kimberly's mirror is now blue and has a triceratops on it, we guess because Billy is carrying it. Tommy shows up and is all "this is too hard! We must surrender!" and for some reason Jason thinks that this is the monster (Oh, fine, we know Tommy probably wouldn't just want to give up) and hits him in the face, and then forces him to look in the mirror. Oh, it is a fake. (Also, why would they bother with the mirror once they figured out he's the fake?)

Then the monster grows and we have a long Zord sequence and it is so awkward, and I wish that I didn't know that the monster and the Zord were from different sentai seasons because so awkward.

After they win, the Rangers go to the park, where Billy deactivates the self destruct on Alpha. Longest self destruct ever. Baby!Dillon is all excited to see them, and he promises never to forget them. Sorry, Dillon, there's that whole Venjix thing in your future. Dillon's mom finally shows up. Took long enough. Seriously, her kid was alone for hours.

Back at the Command Center, Alpha is grounded for a few thousand years.

Fish: 4.5 This episode was amazing but it was still filled with fish.

Fic we want: Seriously, that kid totally grows up to be RPM!Dillon, right?

Episode 38 - A Bad Reflection On You

First, l'shana tova to anyone on this community who celebrates. Queenriley and I decided to start the new year by watching an episode of Power Rangers, which we think worked out pretty well. Especially considering what a great episode this was. You guys, we've found our first ONE FISH episode. Not 1.5. Just ONE.

We open with Rita's best plan yet, and honestly, we're amazed it's taken her 38 episodes to think of it, because it is a great plan. Under the command of Scorpina (which is awesome in and of itself) and the new monster whose name we never actually caught, probably because we were too busy being pleased by the plan, a group of Putties are going to be turned into duplicates of the Rangers. We know that this same plot happens almost a dozen times (and we're going to count them!) throughout the show, but it is awesome, and we love evil twin episodes.

And we have to say, they are rocking the evil look. Billy in a wifebeater with his overalls rolled down? YUM. Seriously, David Yost has nice arms. They also have on sunglasses, because all of Rita's spells involve glowing eyes. She needs to work on that.

The Rangers are all brandishing tools of some sort (and there's a minor moment of serious fail when you realize that Zack is the one with the crowbar. At least he doesn't menace anyone with it) which they use to take apart a water fountain and add laundry detergent into it. We're just going to say this once and move on - science doesn't work like that. But there are some amazing moments, and Amy Jo Johnson and David Yost are clearly having fun reviving their Power Punks personas. We also get a repeat of the Skull asking out punk!Kim, and her doppelganger agrees to go out with him. Oh, Skull, we feel so bad for him. Because Kimberly keeps saying yes and then breaking the dates. We almost can't blame him for continuing to ask her out, because she does say yes sometimes. Also, twin!Billy totally shoves one of his geek friends up against a locker, and is it hot in here or is it just me? *fans self*

Anyway, Principal Caplan is the one to use the water fountain, and he ends up covered in foam, and I guess we aren't retiring the covered in [whatever] category any time soon. The fake!Rangers take credit and get thrown in detention, and they leave. The real Rangers get out of class right after, and they try to help the Principal, but are thrown into detention anyway. They're all confused, it is pretty adorable.

And can we just say, that is not how detention works. What they are actually describing is in-school suspension. And even in-school suspension you get supervised the whole time, and you have to do the work that you're missing by not being in class. But Principal Caplan just leaves them there. Angel Grove should really hire a second teacher.

Bulk tells Jason to get out of his seat. Jason asks him if his name is on it, and Bulk says yes. "Buulk." I'm really hoping that this is how his last name is actually spelled, or else seriously, how did nobody ever test Bulk and Skull for some sort of learning disability? Kimberly breaks the date with Skull, and at this point the Rangers should realize that there's some sort of spell going on. Kimberly just ignores it and pulls out a book with a pink cover. Oh, Kim, I really hope you're reading a trashy romance.

Bulk has a detention survival kit, which includes an enormous lunch sent by his mother. We get it, show, you think that the only reason people are fat is because they can't stop eating. Shut up already. We're totally creating a fatphobia tag now. *rage*

On the plus side, at least Bulk appears to have parents who actually care. We could try to do some analysis, but we're afraid it would just be depressing. Meanwhile, poor Skull has no lunch, and we're now convinced that Skull has a lousy home life. He asked Bulk for some of his food, and Bulk gives him the soda.

The soda promptly explodes, and everyone laughs at Skull. I guess this episode is getting the Rangers are Bullies tag. And then Skull aims the soda at Bulk, who also gets covered in soda, and Bulk retaliates by throwing a pie at Skull. Oy. Skull even THANKS him for it.

Meanwhile, stage 2 of Rita's plan is in full swing. Since the Rangers are otherwise occupied in detention, Rita has her evil Rangers morph and start attacking a very Japanese section of Angel Grove. (Hi there, sentai footage!) Fake!Jason even yells out "No mercy!" as they leap into the square. And they start firing on school children. Wow. Pretty great way to ruin the Rangers' reputations quickly.

Back in detention, Bulk has pulled out a tv. He and Skull are watching cartoons before it is interrupted with live footage of the Power Rangers destroying Angel Grove. This is how the Rangers find out. Can we say epic Zordon fail? The Rangers are compared to the same hoodlums that they used to fight. I'm not really sure that monsters count as hoodlums. Bulk and Skull think this is awesome. We really can't wait for season 2 and their endless quest to figure out who the Rangers are.

The Rangers realize they need to get out of detention, and just walking out doesn't work. Apparently they can't just teleport either, but they're going to need to immediately morph. Zack comes up with the idea of a magic trick (which is consistent with his character at least! He'll pull this trick again later) that will make them disappear. Bulk and Skull have to cover their eyes, put their fingers in their ears, and count backwards from 10. The Rangers morph and teleport out.

Okay, look, I said it earlier, but Bulk and Skull really need to be tested for dyscalculia right now. Or something. They should be able to count backwards from ten. Also, with Jason's new enthusiasm at yelling "It's Morphin Time!" they should still have been able to hear them. Teleportation is quiet. Do that first, THEN morph.

Anyway, the Rangers go to the square and fight their doubles. The fake!Pink one actually pulls off a pretty good plan, yelling for Trini to help her. Of course, it turns out to be the real Kim that Trini hits, but Kim fights back, and they hit the fake!Kim and she transforms back into a putty. The same thing happens with the other fake Rangers, except it turns out that fake!Jason is actually a monster. And we get a great fight - this time they use their blade blasters and the power weapons. No Zords at all! We missed this stuff. It's been a while since we've had a non-zord fight!

The people of Angel Grove come to see the Power Rangers and tell them that they saw the whole thing and they knew the Rangers would never betray them. Riiiiiiiiight.

Back in detention, Bulk and Skull are trying to figure out where the Rangers have gone. Giving up, they figure they can rat them out to Caplan. Just as they bring him in, the Rangers teleport back in, and they totally throw Bulk and Skull under a bus. The Rangers are forgiven for 'their' prank, and there's no mention of anyone ever calling their parents. Right.

Lists!
One fish. The only complaint we have about the episode is the ridiculous science. But really, most of the nitpicky stuff we have to say is so consistent with earlier episodes that we can't really complain as much, because that is just how this universe operates. We'll still point it out, of course. And we have to congratulate Rita on an excellent plan.

Covered in food: Caplan gets covered in foam. Skull gets covered in pie and a soda. Bulk gets covered in soda.

Billy speak: "Not even Skull is that mentally deficient"
"What a remarkable display of early neanderthal socio-contact."

Evil Billy speak: Pasta la pizza.

Kimberly speak: "And to think I always liked mirrors"
