Today on Power Rangers, OMG there is continuity!!!
So I'm still watching on Netflix. And I LOVE it. Stellar quality (my copies were... very bad) and I can watch on my big tv while recapping on the laptop and I don't have to have tiny windows anywhere! All around a good thing. And hey, this episode isn't even half bad! Because they remembered that TJ came to Angel Grove to play baseball! So he plays baseball!
TJ gives good advice to his teammates in the middle of a tight game when his communicator beeps and he has to go. The others are frustrated because he is, apparently, half the team. Or at least the best on the team? Either way, he bails, and they get upset. And despite not having any lines at all, Carlos is apparently also on the baseball team.
They run to help the others fight to protect Storm Blaster. TJ and Carlos rush back to the game and the rest of the team is all excited because apparently now they can't lose. I'm sure the other players are good! Why do they NEED TJ to win? Not to discount his mad baseball skills and all, but at least let some other players shine!
TJ hits a home run and some guy in a blue shirt (obviously playing for the other team) gets the ball way in the outfield. Heath is the new guy and he is very insulting to TJ's team. They have some delightfully tense bickering in which Heath is sure TJ doesn't dance. TJ goes up to bat again to prove to Heath that he really does dance. And... he gets struck out. And everybody is shocked and appalled. Because TJ has apparently never seen a curve ball before? How did he get this far and this good in baseball without ever having encountered a curve ball????
At the next game, TJ goes up against Heath again. There is more delightful tension. TJ strikes out again, despite having skipped all his FUN in order to practice. Divatox is so happy TJ has struck out and she's going to use this whole baseball theme to her advantage by bringing in Strike Out. He throws curve balls too. And knocks down all the rangers, who are trying to play baseball with their swords. This is... the weirdest, and yet most interesting, monster fight I think I've ever seen in Power Rangers! I certainly enjoy the slight change of pace.
Heath is practicing when TJ rides by on his bike. He chases after him and dares him to a race, but TJ refuses. Heath takes off anyway and falls off a cliff, managing to cling to the edge while his bike falls far below. TJ bravely rushes over and grabs Heath's hand to pull him to safety, but not before we get dramatic music and "oh noes I can't reach" tension. Heath is grateful and TJ rides off.
Back at the practice field, Heath teaches TJ how to hit his curve ball. Because TJ saved his life. Aw, jerkass learnt a lesson!
Strike Out is back and Carlos goes to fight, leaving TJ behind to practice with Heath. He gets a few hits in, thanks Heath, promises to keep it a secret, and then rushes off to join the fight. He uses his colour coded red baseball bat to hit Strike Out's curve ball right out of the atmosphere. Then there is monster growing and zords and that part is still boring. But at least the first fights were refreshingly different!
TJ is good on his word and keeps his promise to Heath not to give away the secret to his curve ball. He does encourage his teammates to just give their at-bat their best go. Heath feels a little bad for being so rough on the guys and actually gives them tips on how to hit his balls. Aw, good guy! Maybe the middle of the game isn't the most appropriate time to do it? But this doesn't seem to be professional games, but rather sandlot games. So I don't care. Because he's all nice now. :D
3 fish. It had continuity!!!

Episode 214- The Whole Lie
Is there a good episode of Turbo? I mean, a really good episode? I'm beginning to doubt it.
So there's a car wash. They're trying to raise money to support the Angel Grove baseball team. Hey, it's a sport that isn't martial arts! In Angel Grove! No wonder they need a fundraiser. Justin spies something odd and goes to investigate. He finds Porto, who gives him the best nickname ever that we shall use forever and ever. He calls him the Littlest Ranger and zaps him with some kind of ray gun that forces him to tell lies.
Kat, clearly needing a book on free range parenting, gets all worried because the TWELVE YEAR OLD has wandered off on his own. He's 12. He's not 2. He is perfectly capable of being off by himself. She finds him just as Porto is leaving and asks if anything is wrong. Seeing as Justin can't tell the truth, he tells her he's fine and nothing unusual is going on.
When he lies, a piranatron appears. Kat and Justin fight (unmorphed! Yay! I missed those) and then return to the car wash. Justin continues to lie and Kat is worried about him, so she talks to Tanya. This plan would be much better if he was only lying about certain things, not everything. It's really easy to pick out something is wrong when he lies about stuff they KNOW to be true. Divatox seems pleased with the progress of her plan, however, and Elgar is fighting an octopus with really really long tentacles. He's completely wrapped up. She doesn't seem to care.
Concerned, Tanya and Kat take Justin to Demetria. She is... less than helpful. Justin lies again and a single piranatron shows up at the car wash. Adam is there to fight it off, but for some reason he needs to morph. Tanya and Kat go to help him out, just in time for a monster to show up. Justin stays behind. He's concerned about breaking the spell while the others fall under the same spell.
Tommy, meanwhile, is in the racing footage from the first episode and does not respond to his communicator. He is useless... until he decides he really ought to listen and goes to fight, only to fall under the lying spell as well.
Demetria asks Justin a question upon which he answers truthfully and suddenly the spell is broken. He morphs and asks the others a question, which they also answer truthfully and the spell is broken on them as well. So. A spell that makes it impossible for them to tell the truth can only be broken by telling the truth? And somehow they're able to do this without any trouble, without any concentration, without even any trickery involved? That... is the dumbest lie ray ever.
The monster grows, though how Elgar fired the torpedoes while being sucked out the porthole by the long-tentacled octopus is anybody's guess. They fight. They win. It's very boring.
Back at the Youth Center, Justin promises to never ever lie again. It's not like you could help it, kid! Lt. Stone asks Justin, Kat, and Tanya to try a new juice blend smoothie. They taste it, but it's vile. Lt. Stone asks Justin's opinion, being sure to spell out that he knows Justin would never lie to him, and so Justin tells him it's bad. The others agree. He blames the chimpanzees who then manage to cover him in smoothie. Justin once again reiterates how bad it is to lie, and how people really do want the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth at all times. I think we get the point, show.
4 fish. 4 really old sat-out-in-the-sun fish. Ew.

Episode 161 - Rangers in the Outfield
I promised Queenriley that I wouldn't spend the whole recap going "ADAM/TANYA I SHIP THEM SO HARD" so let me get this out of my system now.
ADAM/TANYA OTP <33333333333333333333333333333333333333333
Um. Possibly I love this episode. It has my favorite things! Baseball! Adam being adorable! Tanya standing up for herself! Shawn getting what's coming to him! FAAAAAAAVORITES.
Pretty much, if there wasn't such a boring Zord fight, and if Adam's wardrobe didn't suck so hard, this might be my favorite episode.
Anyway, we open with a baseball practice. Adam and Rocky are on the team, and they are both very pretty. Tanya shows up to watch the practice because her asshat boyfriend Shawn is on the team. Adam tells Tanya that Shawn's nickname is the Sultan of Swat, because he's like Babe Ruth or something. Whatever. What Shawn actually is would be a grade A asshat.
A pitch comes towards them, and Tanya catches the ball and throws it back. She has never held a baseball before, but she is A++++ awesome at it. The coach sends his pitcher to take a shower, and then has Tanya pitch. She strikes out Shawn, because she is awesome. Especially considering the shoes she's pitching in. And the skirt.
Later, Shawn is being mocked by his friends for being struck out by his girlfriend. He comes over to Tanya, where the Rangers are all congratulating her for being so awesome. Shawn is all "Yeah, well, it was luck. I wasn't concentrating" and then there is RAAAAAAAAAGE. Everyone defends Tanya for being awesome, and she sticks up for herself, and if Adam wasn't wearing a ridiculously baggy sweatshirt, this would be the greatest ever. Adam invites Shawn to go to batting practice with them the next morning, and he admits that he needs the practice.
Meanwhile, Prince Sprocket comes up with a plan to use the batting cage thing so that if someone hits something, they'll be stuck in a monster. Bulk and Skull are supposed to be doing "refuse removal" but they try to bat, and fail to hit anything. Rocky, Adam and the asshat show up, but Shawn forgot his batting gloves, so he leaves. Rocky hits something, and is then trapped. Adam is very concerned.
Cue giant ridiculously boring fight scene. It took up half the episode, but it was just really boring. Tommy manages to get himself also captured, which means he's able to hand Rocky his zeonizers, and then they summon zords and use the stupid battle helmets, and blah blah blah, sword destroys robot. I don't really care.
Now, we get to the important part! The game! It's the bottom of the 9th, and Tanya is still pitching. A whole game? That is pretty damn impressive. She's clearly getting tired, though. She throws two strikes, but the guy manages to hit the last pitch, and it looks like it's going to be a home run, but Rocky manages to leap up and catch it! Because he's awesome!
I would have liked it if Tanya had managed to strike the guy out, but Queenriley had a good point - the next part wouldn't have been nearly as satisfying if she had. You see, Shawn shows up to yell at her for nearly blowing the game, but Adam defends Tanya, pointing out that it's a team sport, and she only had a 1 run lead, and you know, she did a great job overall. Shawn tells Tanya she's not good enough, and Tanya has had enough and dumps him. BECAUSE SHE IS AWESOME AND DESERVES BETTER. Like the guy in green standing next to her.
Adam tells her he's proud of her, and she's all "well, I guess I did ok with the game" and he's all "NO. For being awesome and realizing you deserve better!" Tanya is sad because she's lost a boyfriend, and Adam is so clearly going "Hi! RIGHT HERE" but sadly there is no smooching. :(
Possibly because Rocky shows up to cockblock them.
STILL. THIS EPISODE. HEARTS!
Fish: 2. The splicing in the fight scene was pretty ridiculous, and Tanya did learn baseball pretty fast. But you know, she's that awesome.
Fic we want: ALL THE ADAM/TANYA IN THE WORLD. ALL OF IT.
